Jai adlakha (ballin_like_stalin) | 7 comments genre:it seemed a bit steampunk/fantasy (magic elements)
plot : a group heads on an adventure in an airship(i seem to remember airship but it could have been another mode of transportation ) to deliver the quest item
in the background of the story two rival train companies are competing to be the first to lay railway tracks to the main capital city
the companies are essentially fighting a war on the grounds while laying the tracks with several skirmishes .
unfortunately this is the most i remember from the book
it was part of a series .
i read the book around 2012 .
it's in the same veins as the deltora quest series

What's the tone - e.g., for teens or older adults, fun & adventure, dark & violent, etc.?

its adventure ,there are descriptions of the violent clashes taking place between the rival train companies .
although the overall story was adventure there was some politics
and at the center of the story there is a massive capital city

Jai adlakha (ballin_like_stalin) | 7 comments is it possibly the landkist saga by Steven Kelliher ? steampunk/fantasy (magic elements), does any of the books in the series have a massive battle going on in the background between rival train companies on who gets to lay the tracks ? with the workers constantly skirmishing , or anything similar to this ?
at the center of the story there is a massive capital city
there is an indutrial revolution going on
i need conformation since i havent read the landkist saga recently and i may have read it in 2012 without knowing what it was.
if its not landkist , what could it be ?

bump

A long shot - something by Felix Gilman or China Miéville?

I added a few details to the header/ topic title. Feel free to edit it.

Teri-K | 305 comments I'm pretty sure it's part of this series: Lady of Devices by Shelley Adina. The description of the first book is terrible - it has almost nothing to do with the story. Instead, she loses her home and ends up living with and teaching a group of street smart kids. In book 3 they go off in an airship and begin having adventures around the US. The railroads come in there somewhere.
