How many books are you reading at any given time?

I'm a new member! Next year my goal is to plow through as many of Rory's books as possible. I'm getting myself into the habit of always carrying a book with me (in my purse). However, I typically like to read and finish one book before starting another. Which will make it difficult for me to remember to always put my book back into my purse. My question to you all is how many books do you read at any given time? Are you like me, finish one book before starting another?

I typically read one fiction and one nonfiction at a time. If I do read two fiction at a time, I try to make sure they are really different writing styles.
I think im in the middle of four books at the moment (Omnivores Dilemma, Caesar's Way, Dr Libby's Sweet Food Story (cookbook with health info), & the Margaret Thatcher Autobiography). I usually just have one fiction & one non fiction im reading at a time, but sometimes I pick new books up and just start reading them :)
It depends - I usually have 1-3 I'm reading in a more focused way along with 2-3 (er...4 now I guess) audiobooks that I switch between on my commute and while doing things around the house, 1 or 2 books that I read over the course of the year, and maybe some others that I pick up and put down a bunch of times in between.Right now my more focused reads are a couple histories and a ~philosophy, plus two fiction books (both mysteries, which for me is so unusual that I don't even have a GR bookshelf for the genre), and the audiobooks are a China history/biography/cultural commentary, a bio of a foreign policy great, a theology, and a favorite scifi (millionth reread).

I usually have 1-4 and (millionth reread).
I read slow
my sister could read up to ten at a time
best regards.
I am currently reading 5 books. I normally read about 1-6 books at the same time. I have a book for every bag or occasion. Like this:1. Rory challenge book
2. Audiobook for running/walking
3. The book we are reading in my book club
4. A book in my locker at work
5. A book for sitting in the pub and reading
6. E-book
And sometimes I also read books for studies.
I'm new to the group too, but I have found that reading at least 2 books a month (one every 2 weeks) works best for me. If I finish a book earlier than I expected, yay! If not, I'm still on schedule... Hope this helps! Good luck:)
I tend to stick to one book at a time, but if something else interesting comes along my way, I'll pick it up and read it too.
3 or four at a time; an audiobook for when I can't sit and read; a kindle book that I can read on my phone or iPad, on the treadmill, at odd moments, waiting in the car, etc., and a real, actual book. Basically I find a way to read whenever I can.
I try to only read one at a time for pleasure. But I'm a Lit. major so I naturally I'm always reading multiple books at once. Sometimes I'll start one and then life gets in the way! So I tend to use holidays to catch up books I 'left hanging' at some point!
Usually between 2 and 4. I often read very intense books, so I like to have something fluffy to read along with it, as well as a book of poetry always on my nightstand.
I usually average about two or three at a time. I try to read a nonfiction book, a fiction book (fantasy/historical fiction/YA) and a book pertaining to a professional development goal in my school district.
Between 5-10. This bothers some people and I have been repeatedly asked how I can keep all the storylines straight, but I can.
Ha, Ginny, everybody asks me the same!! And I only try to read 3 books at a time maximum! So you with your 5-10 books, must be asked that a lot-a lot! I easily get stressed out, because I feel like, I should finish them all quick and I can't, if I'm reading that many. So 3 books top!
I am impressed by everyone capable of keeping track of >5 books at once! I am usually reading 1-2 fiction, maybe 1 non-fic and also an audiobook at once.
I like to read two books at a time - one electronically (usually on my Kindle app on my phone) so I can read it anywhere, and one physical book that I keep at home. I also tend to read a fiction and non-fiction book at the same time - usually fiction electronically, and non-fiction in a physical book.
I like to read one at a time because I like focusing 100% on one story line, but I'm trying to change that and read 2-3 at a time so I can get through my lists faster.
I'd say about 20, some of those are being picked up every day or a few times a week, some are picked up every few weeks. I really like to circulate around the stories.
I usually try to stick to one book at a time but lately i'm reading two at a time. well no, maybe three because of the book club i'm in with my friends.
Right now it's 4 but I prefer 2 - one audio and one book book (I listen to the audiobooks at work) this 4 book thing is driving me nuts though
When I am in reading mode ie when I have time to read, I find that I usually end up reading an array of books. I am insatiably curious and take an interest in a lot of different ideas ie books. There are so many great books and I wish I could devour them all at one time. It would be great if I was like a character in a book and could devour a book within seconds just by resting my head on it! I struggle with this and start out reading one book at a time, but eventually my impatience catches up with me and I find myself reading a handful of books all at once.
The number of books is certainly not set by routine or formulation, but is really set by impatience. So could be one or could be many that I will be reading at one time. .
I usually have at least three: one fiction, one non-fiction, and one faith-based book. But I also have a bad habit of getting really excited about starting a new book and then losing that enthusiasm when I've gotten into the book a bit... So right now I technically have 6 or 7 books in progress >__> It's so easy to start and so tough to endure sometimes!
I need to finish a book before starting a new one. Poetry books are the only ones that I start even if I’m reading a novel. I like to keep it on my bedside table and read a few poetries before sleeping.
İ havent try but i dont think so that i can read two or more books at any time. My head full of with book currently reading.
i can't seem to focus on one book at a time, i always end up staring at least one more book while in the middle of another because I'm just too excited to get to the next i guess
i read two books, sometimes three, and if i'm feeling extra risky them there will be four (and that stresses me out so much)
i try my best to stick to one book but its REALLY hard. i usually have a main book (physical) and an e book. there are many books that im just like in the middle of but never finish, so sometimes i read them like if i need to go outside quickly or just need a read
I can read only one book at a time, otherwise I find it very hard to compartmentalize or I end feeling like I'm cheating on one book with the other one. Although I've been trying to start reading a poetry book on the side.
