SOLVED. Book series about different princesses for each book in the series. [s]

Does anyone know of a book series that was similar to the American Girls books in that each book had a different protagonist from a different time period? I think each book was focused on a different princess, and I believe the title of each book was the name of the protagonist. I don't remember the author, but it had to be published before 2008 or 2009 because that's about the time I read them. I don't think they were Disney books, and they weren't the Royal Diaries series. I think they were about fictional characters.

I don’t think any of those were it. I think the books had a black background and each of the protagonists faces on the covers as well.

It definitely sounds like the Royal Diaries! Take a look at both the hardback and paperback covers?

There was also a companion series called Dear America that has paperbacks that sounds like what you are describing.

Thanks for your responses, but I don't believe it was the Royal Diaries either. I just know that I really enjoyed reading the American Girls books, so my teacher gave me this other book series to read because it was similar in that there were different girl protagonists in different places and time periods for each book. They might not have all been princesses- they may have all just been strong female characters. I'm also assuming that the books were for middle schoolers because I read them at about that time.
