I'm just worried that the level of stupid is higher in tv than in books or comics. I'm looking at you, Stumptown.
Tamahome wrote: "I'm just worried that the level of stupid is higher in tv than in books or comics. I'm looking at you, Stumptown."No one is acting stupid so far, which is refreshing.
I don't know. What's like the comic I like, and what's changed I don't like. But Joe Hill co-wrote the episode and is an executive producer. Why didn't they get Gabriel Rodriguez to make the opening drawings? I can't be objective, lol.
I've finished the whole Season and I loved it.
I'm even ok with the big changes they made in the finale. They were needed if there are to be more seasons.
It was cool to see Joe Hill do a cameo like his old man used to do. I didn't realise, until the credits, that Gabriel Rodrigues also had a cameo (in the same scene and doing the same job as Joe)

Oh, cool. I recognised Joe, but had never seen Gabriel before. I did think two episodes relied Pretty hard on the idiot ball. The drowning Caves and the finale. (view spoiler)My favourite character was the guy without legs - a disabled character that is just a cool guy, nobody mentions it twice. Perfect.
Also, one Thing that Maybe in the Graphic Novels or gets clarified in Season 2 (view spoiler)
Nils, answering your spoiler

I only read the first issue of NOS4A2. It didn't hook me. I may give it another chance if it's on sale again.

Tamahome wrote: "Did anybody like the NOS4A2 series? That's from a novel written by Joe Hill as well."I thought the TV series was pretty good, but I admit I would have probably been lost if I hadn't read (listened to the audio) book.
I watched it all. I liked it. I did not think it was scary at all, and that kinda didn’t seem the point. Although I own the comic series I’ve only read the first one, so I don’t know how it compares to the books.
Thanks Tassie Dave - so it remains unclear how it worked in the TV series. Is there an actual Person that hides the keys in the Comics? Because that is implied in the series but makes only limited sense to me. I mean, some of the hiding places are really obvious (like the one stuck to the painting) - I Always felt it was more like the keys more or less appear to the Lockes one after another.
There is an origin story for the keys in the comics
(view spoiler)
I do hope they go into the history of the keys in the TV show.

Just finished (and loved) the comics so I plan on checking this out at some point. Just watched the trailer, and it looks good but one thing was jarring... they're calling the kid Bodey rather than Bode. Not a name I'm familiar with though, so maybe it's meant to have two syllables? Odd, that'll bug me till I'm used to it.
I found it odd too. I'd only read the comic and assumed it was pronounced the same as the word 'bode', but I got used to it in the TV show.
It's not the first, and definitely won't be the last, time I find American pronunciation "peculiar" ;-)

If you are in the USA and have Amazon Prime, one of the Locke and Key graphic novels is available in this months Prime reading. Free to read.https://www.amazon.com/Locke-Key-Vol-...
Olympic skier Bode Miller spells it like the graphic novel and pronounces it like the Netflix series did. I could see how the two pronunciations could be confusing, though.
I really think Veronica needs to weigh in on this, she is after all, the miss-tress of name pronunciation. ;-)As many times as I've heard his name said, I never realized Bode Miller's parents spelled his name that way, I assumed it was Bodey as well. And that name in general always had a very west coast 80's surfer sound to it, much the same way "gnarly" does. But in the context of this story, it obviously has another intention, that probably comes through better in written form then spoken.
I'm gue

Uh-oh, someone used a key on John mid-sentence.

I was just wondering what gue was... and if its pronounced with one or two syllables. :P

The art is really good in the comic. And it's written by Stephen King, Jr.

Thanks, Point Break.
If you want to read the comics, get the Hoopla app from your library (if they offer it). Most of the series is available there.https://www.hoopladigital.com/search?...

Or just buy them if you can afford to. The story is great, and you don't see character development like that every day, delivered perfectly in both the writing and the art.

Sure but for people just getting into the comics, it's nice to have a way to explore them for free. I mean, you all check out library books, right?
Hey, I borrowed all but the last one. Just saying that they are worth buying, if you can afford to. All options are good options. :)
So it’s been a while since I read the comics but am I wrong in thinking they crammed the entire comic series into season 1?
Pretty much. They left a bit out which may be explored later, like the back story of the Locke family's ancestors and the origin of the keys.
But they finished the main storyline from the comics.

Done with the season. I pretty much liked the things that were the same as the comic, and not the things that were different.
never read the comic. my wife and i really enjoyed the show. thought it was one of the best series we have seen on Netflix in a while.
Finally got around to this a few weeks ago. I thought it started a bit slow, and it wasn't quite as dark as I remember the comic being, but overall I liked it.
It's been awhile since I read the comic so I don't remember exactly what happened to know where things were changed. I did like how they did the Head Key. Different from the book but seemed to work well for the change in medium.

The trailers had me optimistically hopeful, but worried it could be disaster :-?
This is my 2nd favourite comic book series ever and my bar of expectations is set really high.
2 episodes in and I'm loving it so far. They have captured the feel of the comic and, except for 1 or 2 very minor exceptions, they have the casting fairly well spot on.
The house is perfect. So much so, that I wouldn't be surprised if this was the inspiration for Gabriel Rodríguez’s art work.
2 huge thumbs up, so far :-)
