Professional Fangirl | 10 comments I read this book in middle school so 2008-2011. The story was set in a universe where people knew about the different dimensions/universes and could travel between them. There were three main characters. They were all around the age of 10-12. One of the characters was from a dimension where people did not become their gender until puberty happened. So that character was referred to as they. The other two characters were a boy and a girl.

A guess - InterWorld by Neil Gaiman? There are different cover images.

Professional Fangirl | 10 comments It's not that one, thanks though! Another detail: every dimension was known for something like the districts in the Hunger Games. So one dimension was the genderless until puberty dimension and another one (for example) was super techy and had fashion that reflected it. I think that it was a normal thing for children around the age of 12 to go on quests of a sort.

Audrey | 119 comments Maybe The Homeward Bounders by Diana Wynne Jones? Many of her books future people (often children) traveling between dimensions. So if that isn’t it it may be another of her books
