@Ayshe could be! That would be pretty awesome if it is- I named my daughter Isis! Must have been quite an impressionable book and did not even realize it... Requested book through my library- will update!

Setting: Earth or planet like Earth. Mentioned many times was the setting of mesa, or on top of a mesa, or red mesa. Seem to remember lush vegetation, going down a hill toward the humans.
Main character, female teen, had green skin and perhaps red hair. Something about her eyes, 2 eye lids? Snake eye vertical iris’?Was human-like.
Sun was too strong for humans, but main character had skin and eyes adapted to be able to be in the sun without space suit. She wore a space suit to fit in with the other human kids or at least be near enough to watch them.
Main character just wanted to be like the regular humans. Was esp. attracted to a particular human boy and made friends I believe.
