Ha! I'm the lone one. Don't worry. I'll wait. Cannot wait to talk about this book. I want to solve this mystery. The Other People, while they sound good in theory, are not the folks I'd like to run into for real.
Well it seems that Alice is Izzy, Fran’s real daughter is the one that Izzy’s grandpa said was Izzy, Fran is keeping Izzy safe in exchange for her not telling anymore her actual daughter is dead, Gabe accidentally hit someone when he was a teenager who was also named Isabella and now it’s coming back to bite him, Lou’s bf is one of the other people (that’s just a guess since it hasn’t been explicitly said yet), but now I’m wondering what on earth is there still to find out? There’s still like 25% of the book left but it seems like all the pieces are coming together?? There’s got to be another twist coming soon...

Definitely agree there has to be another twist coming. Maybe to do with Steve and his connection to The Other People. If Katie and Lou hadn’t spoken to Fran in years and she was the one he was after, why keep tabs on those two?

Currently on page 201... I’m hoping for such a huge gut wrenching twist for this second half. I don’t know what but I hope it’s great. I am loving all the dynamics so so much. I can’t for the life of me work out the pebbles...
I feel like we might get a supernatural ending. just because of the pebbles and the comatose girl. Did we forget about the weird mirror thing?

Why does Izzy have these narcolepsy episodes and what’s about that mirror thing? (Obviously there is some sort of trauma there from the past?)

I'm so curious what happens in the last 25%. I'm not a huge thriller reader but I'm really liking this one! All these connections with still all these questions that need answering, very interesting.
So many what the heck moments. I’m digging this!! Can’t wait to finish it up today!
I am also thinking about how Franny got to be part of this, i mean, we know her dad died, but how did she become a part of "the other" ? And i think it was Isabelle maid, /mirama, who put Gabe up to "the other".

ALL OF THE QUESTIONS!!!!! I'm so intrigued!! Love the short chapters, keeps the pace up which i really enjoy
Think I with most people where I still have so many questions, but i also feel like it is starting to wrap some things up. Im just waiting for another plot twist to throw me off still, luring us in thinking we know what is happening and then something might happen that will leave us shocked
I’m still confused but read to see how it all ties up.
So it makes sense now that Alice is Izzy. I'm still not sure about the falling asleep and mirror/rock thing. How will that be resolved? And who is the Samaritan? And what did Fran ask to be done that she had to pay back? And who exactly got the Other People to exact revenge on Gabe if the mom of Isabella is dead? Maybe Miriam?
Okay i have finished this section and it’s currently 1:45am. Should I keep going or not ??? It has got so spicy but I have a feeling a big twist is about to happen but I can’t even come up with one? Everything “big” has so far been explained. I think the Samaritan is also the Sandman as he says only some people call him the Samaritan. The only thing left to discover is the shells and pebbles Izzy carries around. What are their significance to her? Is Isabella somehow sending Izzy pebbles from coma land?? Is the Samaritan/Sandman some supernatural being ?? What’s the craic with the mirrors ??

So it took me a while to get invested in this story but now that I am I can't wait to see how it ends. I agree this is probably building up to some kind of supernatural ending.... I wish I had some kind of theory for who the sandman was, or the samaritan, or who hired the other people but I got nothing... I feel like a lot of pieces have fallen into place but there are still a lot of questions to answer.
So Alice being Izzy threw me for a bit of loop. I thought it'd be too obvious for her to be Izzy that I dismissed the idea from the beginning. Still trying to wrap my head around the plot and how everyone is connected. I'm waiting to see what Fran's involvement with the Other People is.

I didn’t even think of that but that would really make sense.

Seriously don't think I can put this story down. waiting for the psychic twist, is the original Izzy going to wake up? I can't decide.
so glad Gabe kept visiting after the mother died, but furious he never told Jenny. and he let his daughter be named the same? There is no way he should have let that happen. Even if he didn't want to tell the truth he could have come up with a lie pretty easily. My childhood dog that went rabid and bit someone was named Isabella or something. Who's gonna argue with that?
I'm hooooooked. The build up was worth it. I'm ready for the end to blow my socks off. All these reveals...

OMG 😮! Who is the Samaritan? Who is the Sandman? Are they one in the same? 🤔 Heading into the final stretch hoping it all ties up nicely.

SAAMME! Everything that I feel. I feel like I understand what is happening, then I read some chapters and am completely wrong.
Who is the Sandman & who is the Samaritan? I think I understand how everyone is tied together, except for Fran & Alice. It seems like Isabella (the girl in the coma) is somehow connecting her thoughts to Alice, which could have an interesting twist, especially since at the end of Chapter 40, she said "liissten" to Gabe, which Alice hears and then pebbles (and a sea shell) appear and she was holding a sea shell when thee accident happened....
Will Kate save the day and join forces with Gabe to try and figure this whole things out?
Though another thing I can't figure out is why Gabe never told Jenny about Isabelle.... I think there must be a deeper connection there. Also curious on why Fran & Kate's father was killed. Maybe Steve is part of The Other People and is carrying out the unpaid debt.
The book is almost over and I have so many questions. This could mean the book ties up perfectly in a good amount of time, or it's rushed... here's hoping it ties up perfectly and isn't rushed - haha!
I just finished chapter 38, and even though it is what I expected, I have goosebumps!!! This book is getting so good.
Wow I was shocked about steve lol can't believe I didn't see that coming about him ............. if it wasn't Isabella's mother who went to the others, who the heck did !!? this has been pretty entertaining to listen to through audiobook.
wow! things are getting Crazy. I wonder if Steve is the Sandman. I'm kinda disappointed that Alice is Izzy but of course hidden in plain sight has been a theme. I just know I can't put this book down! I can not wait to finish.
Wow! I guess i shouldn’t be surprise that Alice was Izzy. I think Steve is probably the guy who tried to stab Gabe previously. I still don’t understand what he has to do with Alice, Gabe and Fran though?
I also think Alice may be a ghost.
So Alice is Izzy. There's one theory I thought had been busted...that turned out to be correct.Katie has quickly become my favorite character. I think she'll be the one to "save the day".
I still have questions. But I guess that makes reading the rest of the book worthwhile.
I knew it! Alice is Izzy, and the lady in the coma is the other Isabella. Who doesn't tell his family he put someone in a coma? That is a lie I don't think you should keep to yourself. I knew Harry was the connection to Fran, or the other people. This is going pretty predictably but there are still some surprises. I still don't like mysteries like this mixed with supernatural elements, things like the sandman and the sleeping sickness pebbles and shells. I don't know. I have read to chapter 45 in 6 hours so I could be wrong and I do enjoy books like this.
So, Harry was sketchy as predicted, but Steve I didn't expect. He was such a marginal character.I don't really care for the supernatural aspect, but I think that it ties to the Samaritan somehow. He's too much of a mystery to not be part of something deeper, like being the one to start The Other People, or something. One thing I don't understand is how killing his wife and kid is a fair repayment for putting a girl in a coma. Maybe Jenny was collateral damage, but who knows. And here I'm just speculating pretty hard, but could the Samaritan be the one that killed his wife? And that's why he is helping him find Izzy? To finish the job? OK, OK, I'm putting my tinfoil hat away.
The part about the accident was pretty hard to read, but I'm still enjoying the read. I really hope that Kate will save the day and not die, I'm rooting for her.
I still wonder who decided to contact the other people. I guess it could be Miriam.
This seems to be coming along quite neatly. Not sure what the next twist will be, most things seem to be tied up already.

Okay so I completely thought that Alice being Izzy would be too obvious so I dismissed that idea right away! However, discovering that she is Izzy still gave me all sorts of feels. I’ve been devouring this book and still have so many questions or theories..I feel like the Samaritan is the Sandman. He did say “some” people call him the Samaritan. Is the Sandman his other name?
Also with Isabella’s mother being dead, was it Miriam who turned Gabe over to The Other People? Does it have to be someone directly involved in the incident to submit a request or could one of the bystanders have done it? Maybe someone who read the story in the news paper? OR maybe Gabe’s wife submitted the request? She did think he was having an affair and wanted a divorce, a way out, but maybe The Other People figured out Gabe’s past and took matters into their own hands?
As soon as they described Steve’s character I knew he was bad news! Curious to see how his character develops. Is he the Sandman or just a low man on the totem pole? Or is he another grieving person and this is all just part of his favor?
I have so many questions!! What's the deal with the mirrors and pebbles? Is Isabella the one that Izzy sees when she goes to "sleep"? How is that connected to The Other People? Who is the Sandman/Samaritan? Are they actually the same person? At this point in the book things are starting to come together and questions are starting to get answered, but there's still a lot left to read, so I'm expecting another big twist at the very end.
Still so many questions! So Izzy=Alice which I’m kinda surprised about. Still doesn’t explain how Isabella is communicating with Izzy and the pebbles. I get how they play in...but is Isabella astroprojecting somehow or telepathic because of her getting hit by the car?
So I would guess Fran contacted the other people for what happened to her dad, then her repayment after (I assume Harry or Jenny contacted the other people) was to take care of Gabe. Why would Fran bring her child to murder a man? How does her daughter play into the switch-a-roo? Maybe Fran was forced to sacrifice her daughter and take Izzy?
I also believe it was Steve who stabbed Gabe and Steve is part of the other people. How he fully plays into this, I’m not sure.

My big question is how did Fran end up with Izzy? I know her own daughter died, but why was she there in the first place? She “did it for dad” makes me think he was involved with the other people and she is somehow paying his debt maybe? Still not sure how the Samaritan fits exactly. Why does he know so much? Can’t wait to finish!! 😊
okay so my theory is that someone killed fran’s father and daughter and so she approached the other people to help get revenge. but in return she had to kill izzy and jenny. she killed jenny but couldn’t kill izzy so she kidnapped her and is now on the run. i think miriam contacted the other people when isabella’s mother died. i’m enjoying the story and it’s keeping me reading but to be honest the writing isn’t my favorite and the characters feel really flat. like they have a personality but i’m not really connecting to anyone. like when fran got attacked i was really surprised but not upset or anything lol
About to head into the home stretch and I don’t want to put this down! I thought that Alice would be Izzy and I kept forgetting how young she was when her mother was killed. So it makes sense that she doesn’t remember much. Steve was a shocker! He’s obviously part of The Other People. I really want to know how Fran got involved, I’m assuming she wanted revenge for her father’s murder and that’s how she got mixed up by needing to owe them a favor in return. And she realized how bad this was and that’s why she’s protecting Izzy. Im still so curious about the pebbles and the mirror thing. Why do Isabella and Izzy have that connection? Some sort of paranormal thing? I’ve been waiting for that explanation for a long time now.Loving this and can’t wait to finish it! (Probably tomorrow...)
So yes, Izzy is Alice, which I had been predicting from the start, I was just hoping it wouldn't be true because it seemed so predictable. I suspected Steve to be the police man who stabbed Gabe, which I think is also gonna turn out to be the case. Then Steve is possibly also the person who attacked Fran, I previously suspected the samaritan* of attacking her but this makes more sense.
My theories about Gabe doing something bad in his past, and him feeling guilty about what happened to coma-Isabella turned out to be the same theory 😅 so it was nice to see those puzzle pieces connect when we found out he had hit her with his car.
My previous theory about Fran contacting the other people to kill the person who killed their father, and her repayment being killing Gabe, I still believe in. It was maybe not killing him, but just hurting him by hurting his family maybe?
As for the samaritan, there is probably some ulterior motive there. Someone mentioned that he and the sandman may be one and the same. I hadn't thought about the sandman for a while, so hadn't considered it, but I think that's a pretty good theory.
So far there haven't been any plot twists that really surprised me, so I'm hoping the major plot twist at the end will, if there is gonna be one. My problem with CJ Tudor's previous book, the Chalk Man was the same, even though I really love her writing style, the twist, or the 'whodunnit', wasn't surprising, I was expecting it.. So I'm hoping this one will be able to surprise me in the end 😁

How do you keep a secret like that, whilst also gaslighting someone and making everyone think they're crazy? So what if Jenny wanted a divorce. There's nothing to suggest that Gabe is dangerous so why would they want his daughter kept away from him?I like that Gabe was able to atone for putting Isabella in a coma. Maybe she's the one giving Ozzy/Alice the pebbles?

Alice actually being Izzy wasn't surprising. I actually wished that wasn't the case in the beginning and wanted a different twist with her. Even though it was predictable, it was done well enough. But what's up with the pebbles and mirrors? How does she know to do that in order to contact the other girl, who I'm assuming is Isabella.Once I found out Steve was a police officer, I figured he was the one who stabbed Gabe and stole his stuff because he was starting to get to close to finding out about the The Other People.
Fran being on the run from The Other People was obvious. It made sense she was on the run from them after they either killed or hurt whoever killed her father, but she couldn't or didn't want to repay their favor so she ran from them. Somehow her daughter got caught up in it and died, so she decided to try and help save Izzy instead.

I. cant. stop. reading!I also agree with a lot of other predictions, and honestly believe that there's going to be a huge plot twist! There was so much buildup to the current events that it's gotta go out with a bang leaving us all shook!

I think who I agree with the most is Anusha. Fran has to kill Jenny because she had the other people kill dad’s killer but she couldn’t kill Izzy so she took her and is on the run. Whew! Run-on sentence there! Absolutely think the Samaritan and Sandman are the same. I really hate to think Miriam hires the Others. And I have NO CLUE about the mirror/pebbles etc. so very sad about Isabella. She didn’t have a happy life living except at the ocean so she keeps returning to that but how???? Have to finish this tonight! Excellent first book club choice!
