Have you heard about the Apocrypha? Have you read them? Are you aware that they are Gnostic writings? Or have you believed the Media when they assert that they give a more realistic image of Jesus, and the Catholic Church has tried to suppress them? Did your reading of Four Witnesses: The Early Church in Her Own Words (specially the chapter about Ireneus) help you to understand this chapter? Did you have a preconceived idea about this before reading this book? Has it changed after reading the book?

Fonch | 2498 comments I have already read the second chapter and it is a pity that so far the interest of the participants in this debate has not deserved. Because it's very interesting. Given the beating, that certain globalist institutions are getting us into the subject of the Gnostic Gospels. I think of the Da Vinci Code so praised by many Catholics that it only expresses the wishes of certain globalist entities, and plutocratic elites. The problem is that this type of literature has generated a literature of suspicion, which already existed before the Da Vinci Code. I found those slobs reading Katherine Neville's "The Magic Circle." One of the greatest disappointments I suffered was when I read Robert Lyndon's "The Hawk's Gestation," and see how it became an excuse to seek a Gnostic gospel from St. Thomas. I was also disliked for how boring it was, and for the amorality of the characters. Juan Manuel de Prada in his amazing novel "Black swan White blackbird" https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... created a carácter that it is an allegory of these writers called witch alférez besides he writes an article Echoes of Eco reporting this kind of suspicious literature https://www.religionenlibertad.com/op... It is very interesting the struggles of Rodney Stark against Pagels, Karen King, and Funk. We see that his vision of Christ of Funk is similar to that of Renan, as a master of morals.
That they are gospels, for a select minority, that were written late, and it is interesting to see the similarities between these Gnostic gospels, and the heresy Manicheist/Cathar. I'm not surprised by Rodney Stark's link between paganism and gnosticism. Let us remember that St. Augustine goes from paganism to Manicheism. Remember that we saw this topic when we analyzed Taylor R. Marshall's book "The sword and serpent" https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... and I want to recommend our co-moderator Manuel Alfonseca's book "The Seal of Eolo" https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... where each character is the embodiment of a religious doctrine paganism (cult of Mitra), stoicism, mazdeism, atheism and gnosticism, being the last one for me the meanest character of all. Of course the protagonist embodies Christianity.
In addition, I agree with the final conclusion of the chapter. I remember the obsession with the Gospel of Judah, which was forced by Benedict XVI to say that this gospel was not trustworthy, and that Judas was not Christ's favorite disciple, but a greedy, thief. Every X time will be insisted on this issue. I hope that literature of suspicion was soon relegated to oblivion. Although I believe, it will be maintained by feminism. Part of the success of these books, at least in Spain, is why. I recently tunad the women's priesthood with a dear friend.

Galicius | 48 comments The Suppressed Gospels: Gnostic writings, Lost gospels. The quotes are to me not controversial but idiotic: no such thing as sin? Jesus making Mary male? Jesus married to Mary Magdalen? Author considers them Pagan gospels. Ireneus denounced them and dismissed them as fiction. Evil god according to gnostic gospel of John? Much antagonism to the God of the Jews. No historical context. Press admires them, even forgeries. “Da Vinci Code” is fiction. Gibbon was an anti-Catholic scholar along with a generation of others. Julian the Apostate the last pagan emperor was not effective in restoring paganism--practiced horrid persecutions of Christians--though ruled only 18 months. Gibbon dismissed Constantine's conversion as insincere and it probably was.

I like very much this comment Galicius and i totally agree with it. It is posible that the Da Vinci Code was fiction but be careful it is not innocence or neutral the objective it is to créate the seed of doubt to provoke an apostasy and the people lost their faith and it could be ruled by the globalist movement Soros, Gates, and other gentlemen. I have not wanted to read more but i have the impression that every book of Dan Brown is more anticatholic tan the previous book. More or less in the Da Vinci Code, although the things defended by the Catholic Church are false the catholic church could exist if the Catholic Church accepts the progressive decisión of the secret society. In the Inferno is evil because the Catholic Church is against the limit of the population and in Origin the autor promoted the atheism.
The evil God for this reason i have compared the Cathars with the gnostic these things were that they said especially about the sex relationships.
My profesor of Theory of History told to us that Gibbon wanted to be catholic, but his father did not allow to be catholic and for anger he became mason and he attacked the Carholic Church.
Now i am Reading with the City of God the third chaspter about pagans were pursued by the christians. I Will speak more about this topic.

Thank you. It is interesting that you mention Soros because he's quite a thorn intruding into the society and politics of Eastern Europe, Hungary and Poland in particular. (He happens to reside in Bedford, New York State.)

Soros has a lot of influence in the spanish goverment in the coalition of Socialist and Comunist Party Podemos (these have received money of Venezuela, Bolivia, and Iran). The president of Spain Pedro Sánchez met more with the millionaire Soros tan the opposition leader Pablo Casado. Soros controled several Spain politician it would not be surprising that he controled also politicians of the center right party PP. The only party that he can not control is VOX.
