Jannene wrote: "Who approved that?? Then I’m making you read books with 20 word titles!!"L'm okay with that since they are less than 350 pages!!
So - the toppler starts on the 15 and it does not look like this book will apply to the toppler criteria, at least as far as I can tell. Do we want to wait a week and start on the 22nd?
Cherie, Jannene told me that there was a chance you guys wouldn't be able to start it this weekend. L'm good with the 22nd.
Okay, Dom. I really am looking forward to reading this one.I started another Steampunk genre series a couple of years ago that I need to get back to. It happens in an alternate timeline too, but the Civil War is currently happening there.

Sounds interesting!
I am. I’m hanging out at my work to finish up a task I started for a project that needs to be done on Monday and get on-line to post my last toppler book. I’m listening to a stupid, mindless audiobook while I work. I plan to start our book as soon as I get home though. 😜
I’m on page 138 in my ebook. This is the beginning of chapter 16. I read 13, 14, and 15. (view spoiler)I’m going to start listening to The Starless Sea book for the buddy read. I will still try to read a chapter or two a day until you two join in.
Ash (view spoiler)Charlotte(view spoiler)
I think if I was reading this it would be a little harder to get into. What do you think Cherie?
Thoughts so far(view spoiler)
This is a type of genre that I have NEVER read before so it is interesting learning a new genre but frustrating because I don’t exactly understand it. Does that make sense?
Yes, Jannene, you are making sense. Steampunk can be very difficult at first, until the author paints the background to the world they are creating. Thinking about what I had read up until the last three chapters, I do not blame Dom for bailing, but it has gotten a little better. It is very easy to read. Everything is right on the surface, except what they call things, until they explain or give a demonstration. If I were listening, I might have liked the first parts a little better. I seem to do better with YA in audio. That said, I am hanging in there with the book. I do want to know more about the parents, but I don't think we are going to find out. This seems to be all Ash, Jack, Meg and Charlotte. Yes, I liked the scene in your spoiler about Charlotte (view spoiler)
Good grief! You were at chapter 11 and now you are at chapter 22. You speed reader. I worked until 8:00 and had to taxi my granddaughter to the bank before I got out of the car. I just finished reading chapter 17 and was going to write a spoiler, but you already know what happened and I’m behind now.
I’m going to bed. I’m tired.
I’m listening to the audiobook because that is all that was available. I’ll finish it tonight. (Also know that I’m only reading one book right now...or is that listening?)
Got it. I finished another audiobook at work today, and will read another chapter or two when I get home. I can concentrate on the audiobook for The Starless Sea tomorrow. I only have one or two audiobooks on Audible to listen to until my library holds show up.
We can still discuss the book. After the action in Chapter 17 last night, I am anxious to get back and see what happens next. (view spoiler)
I just finished the story, but before I read the author’s notes, I wanted to write my spoilers for the last chapters. Ch 26 (view spoiler)
Author’s Note: Interesting alternate history write up. It might have been better to read it first to get a feel for the story line, but I cannot decide if it would have made any difference into how I felt about the characters and their environment in the beginning chapters of the book. It is simply too hard for me to believe that teenagers and young children, living alone in a cave system can survive like we are led to believe. There are too many holes. My ebook has the beginning of the next book but I did not read it.
Yes, I'm willing to go on with the next book. I liked this one enough to see where the next one leads.
Yes, if you don’t mind waiting. I think we are both getting dangerously over burdened with buddy reads.
Cherie wrote: "Yes, if you don’t mind waiting. I think we are both getting dangerously over burdened with buddy reads."Agreed. I wouldn’t mind waiting until May if needed.
Book 3 - Unfortunately my audiobook doesn’t tell me chapters. I’ll have to read comments and then comment.
The Turncoat's GambitOh, too bad your audiobook does not tell chapters. What a pain!
I read the first six chapters yesterday. Like the second book, this third one takes off right after where the previous one ended. (view spoiler)
