Yes, that cage thing sounded awful! I cannot think why her father being alive would make any difference to the story, but it was supposed to encourage Charlotte to help them discover how Grave was made. I doubt it makes any difference to her mother any more. She seemed to have moved on. I really cannot believe that they are going to cure him either. I am not sure if Coe is completely on the Empire's side, but finding out that he was Lazarus was harsh. (hide spoiler)]

Reading two books at the same time on my Nook tablet is a drag. I normally do not do it, but I had to buy the group read book because it was not available from my library and I nominated it and have to be the discussion leader. I already own the book we are discussing now. I also have an ebook from my library I need to get through this month, and the monthly challenge book - all on my tablet. I did not think it out very well. I might have to borrow my granddaughter's ereader to help out. My tablet is getting older and not keeping the charge very well.

I really cannot fathom how anything is going to be accomplished in this book. This is the last one, correct?

The hardcopy indicates 328 pages but my ebook is only 238. There are 36 chapters and an Epilogue. We are halfway done already. I cannot figure out where this girl is going...

I finished ch 21-27.
I am reading in chapter 28. (view spoiler)[ Hmm. Coe was captured by Lady Ott, Charlotte was rescued by Linnet, Jack and the pirate (he seems rather superfluous). Lady Ott notified her husband of Coe's double dealing and the Resistance and French were alerted to an imminent attack on New Orleans. Charlotte, Jack and Linnet escorted Coe back to New Orleans to turn him over to the Resistance and find out what the plan is for them to win back their favor, by attacking New York's Floating City. Charlotte met with Aunt Io and she along with the rest of their kid friends have agreed to help rescue Grave and "repair" him. Now, the British fleet is attacking New Orleans. Charlotte and Ash are with their mother in the tower watching the fight. Jack is outside fighting in Wasp. I just read about the spider weapon - the metal spheres that ejected from the wall, walked under a warship and shot a harpoon up into the belly of said warship. The body of the spider is then pulled up into the air via a cable while the pilot of the spider parachutes to the ground. When the body of the spider makes contact with the body of the warship, "BOOM". Pretty good imagination! The British have retreated! I wonder if the Otts had actually left the city like they said they were going to do? (hide spoiler)]

This is a new one for me. I have never seen it nor ever heard it used before. Have you? I did not bookmark it, so I had a do a search (I have never done that in my ebook before.) It was used in chapter 22 "Lady Ott chattered about quotidian things to which Charlotte paid no mind." Apparently, it is going to be used again in chapter 30.

Overall, I did not think the trilogy was too bad for a YA, steampunk theme. I think the author was pretty creative at times, especially with the alternate history. I absolutely think it is for a younger target audience than the two of us. ;o)

I found it interesting that Charlotte saved Coe. Then she left with pirates.

I can’t believe they saved her father. That was interesting.

I am not sure steampunk is a genre I like. Although I didn’t hate these books, I certainly wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. (hide spoiler)]
