I read this book around 2010-2011. The setting was a little medieval, and I remember that normal no one had that many of the tiny dragons. And I believe they stayed tiny for life, but there was some old legend about the big dragons?

The scenes I remember *SPOILERS*:




The girl was supposed to choose two eggs for a friend and a noble, and meant to give the friend the gold dragon but gave him the bronze one instead, but he didn't mind. I also remember her walking through the city with all her tiny dragons and getting a free dragon-themed belt. She became pretty well known too, I think.

I think you're thinking of an adult series, but it was popular among YA as well. All your information fits. While it seems to take place in medieval times, it's actually sci fi/fantasy because we left Earth to find other worlds and due to conditions on the planet, they became medieval like in their way of life and forgot their origins in the initial struggle to survive.

The entire series is called The Dragon Riders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey. The specific book where the girl (her name is Melony) saves tiny dragons and becomes famous for it, which takes place in the middle of the series , but can be read on it's own is Dragonsong. This book is part of a trilogy in the series which also discusses her giving away the eggs and getting the dragon belt. Dragonsong is the first book in the trilogy. This is the title that contains the entire trilogy The Harper Hall of Pern. I'm 99% positive Dragonsong and Harper Hall by Anne Mccaffrey are what you're looking for. You can read the trilogy as a stand alone if you like. All parts of your description are in it.

Most libraries still carry them because the series is still a favorite after all of these years. You may have to look in the Science Fiction/Fantasy sections. Different libraries put it under one or the other genre. Hope this helps.
