Interesting. It's not that one, but it does sound similar. This is more intimate and less sprawling and definitely not that title or author. It's very frustrating. Clearly that other person is asking about exactly the same book. You can't forget the lawn mower incident, or that at the end the young woman steps into the mother-in-law's role and life. According to IMDB.com, the TV mini-series "The Little House" (2010) with Francesca Annis was written by Philippa Gregory - who wrote The Little House. I think we can marked this as solved.
