Magpie And if so, did you think it was better? I thought that was an AWESOME book, with a similar premise, but I just like the relationships better. IDK...Whattaya think?

I think Before I Fall is better , too. They're both awesome, but Before I Fall left me numb and feeling empty and serene. If I Stay just left me feeling like me.

Mikayla Before I Fall was such a wonderful book. I loved it to death and I think it was way better than If I Stay, even though I did like If I Stay

Aj the Ravenous Reader Before I Fall is a really great book but I don't think that it and If I Stay are built on a similar premise and therefore should not be compared. If I Stay is a great book in its own right and so is Before I Fall. What is similar between these two books is the fact that they are both uplifting YA books.

Kitkat2026 Before I fall is defiantly better there is no choice in before I fall it's what she does with what happened not if she can deal with life

Violet I preferred If I stay and Where she went as a package deal more than Before I fall.
But in question to Singularly just BIF vs IIS, I suppose it's a tie.
I was equally impacted by different aspects to these stories.
The Characteristics I loved most about the respective stories.

Before I Fall
The Romance,
Character development,
Final Decision.

If I Stay
Family dynamic,
Narration,
Final Decision and it's progression point.

I can definitely see the reason for comparison, Both of them are about the choices we make and the impact they have on who we become, and where we go from there.
It also has similar themes relating to Fitting in, Peer Pressure, Family impact, Friendship, First Love, Death and both stories are narrated in a short timeframe.
What's wonderful is how differently all these themes are implemented in both books, and these starkly different consequences make a remarkable point.
I'd suggest any Teen to read both of them. While both concepts are not unheard of, and their execution is simple, There's much to realise, and learn from.

Marcy I don't know that I consider them *terribly* similar other than that there are end-of-life choices/issues to consider, but if I had to pick which I preferred between the two, just as a general "I enjoyed reading it," it would be "Before I Fall." I liked "If I Stay" a lot, too, but I enjoyed "Before I Fall" a bit better.

Nuha Hameed before i fall is amazing!
the concepts of both books are very similar, yes, but the message each is trying to get across is different. so, one cannot be compared to the other.

Magpie I dunno I just found the love story in BIF better. But then again the emotional rollarcoaster both books took me on..it's funny cuz IIS ended like "yes!" And BIF ended like "aw man!"

Robin i liked if i stay better, but i thought the whole concept of before i fall was interesting. while they both are young adult books that deal with death, they are NOT like reading the same book at all. they are totally different stories and it didnt phase me that i read both of them not far apart from each other. id recommend both.

I loved both so much. Before I Fall definitely made me cry more, but I'd say If I Stay is better, simply because Gayle Forman's writing is better and I thought the ending was more finalized. (At least in When I Go, it was)

Erika "Before I Fall" was definitely a sequel worth waiting for, wanting and reading. It was far better than "If I Stay", but certainly "If I Stay" was a great tease and premise leading into "Before I Fall". It had depth, showed and allowed the reader a variety of emotions and the ability to relate. It also seemed to me to bridge the age gap. I'm 38 years old, a mother of a teenager, and it took me back to my teenage loves, yet also allowed me to think of my teenage son in a place like this in his near future. It was beautiful, thought provoking, and certainly emotionally drawing. I thought it was absolutely and thoroughly amazing!

Caroline Before I fall was beautiful, and better than If i Stay. You could feel his pain...and if you have ever felt a similar pain... you can really relate! really amazing!

Caroline i meant where she went :)

Deanna Both are really good books. There are things I love about both of them. I don't know if I can pick between them because, even though they're similar, they're so different! They had me feeling different things.
