Twgray | 9 comments I read this novel sometime in the 80's or 90's. The subject was an 'abominiable snowman' like creature which has the ability to bore through ice and rock and is killing people in the surrounding mountain resorts. A team of hunters, armed with 'fusion' arrows finally tracks the beast down and destroys it.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks for any help!

Twgray | 9 comments Since I was asked these questions about another of my posts for help, I'll add that this was a paperback...before the time of eBooks. Also, pretty sure it was written by a male author.

Esau by Philip Kerr?

Peter Meilinger | 469 comments I'm frankly amazed I don't know this book, since it's exactly the kind of thing I love to read.

What in the world are fusion arrows, though?

Just to get a couple of unlikely candidates out of the way:

Ice Hunt

Terminal Freeze

They were both written in the 2000s, though.

ETA: How about Hunter? It was written in 1999. The main character is the world's best tracker, called in to deal with a prehistoric monster that some scientists revived and then lost control of, as scientists are wont to do. Those wacky scientists.

Twgray | 9 comments None of those...fusion arrows, while not well explained, probably for the simple reason that they made little sense, when fired into the beast created little fusion reactors that literally dissolved the part of the body the arrow hit. Kind of hokey, but the rest of the book was great. I just ordered a copy of Esau from Amazon to see if that is the right book, but it doesn't sound exactly spot on.

Giving this a bump. Twgray, was "Esau" your book or are you still looking?

message 8: by Twgray (new)

Twgray | 9 comments Esau, unfortunately, was not the book I am seeking, so still looking!

Ayshe | 4721 comments Snowman by Norman Bogner? This review: http://www.corpseking.com/snowman.html mentions "special arrows tipped with nuclear warheads".

Peter Meilinger | 469 comments Holy cow, I have to read that book. The snowman is twenty feet tall and shoots laser beams out of his eyes! No wonder they needed nuclear arrows!

That review is a riot, too. There's a bunch of similar reviews on his page. I think I've got a lot of one cent books to buy off Amazon now.

Sooooo, what was _Esau_ about (how was it different from your request?); ie: write a book review :D

Peter, you may also like: "Bob's yeti problem" by Lawrence Person - which is in this genre, but not what OP is looking for.

That is it...thanks! You know, when I posted this, back in 2014, I had done exhaustive searches, over a period of a few years, for the title "Snowman", and every derivative I could think of, to no avail. Thanks for the heads up and for reminding me that I had even posted this.
