It's Time to Topple By the Numbers!

Now I will start The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making.

How is your book going ?

It started out a bit slow for me, but now I'm really hooked. I don't want to put it down. It's 10:30pm and my eyes are blurring, but I want to keep reading.

No, since there aren't any points there isn't anything to track, except participants. This one's just for fun, and all chatting and reporting is done here. The December Toppler is very low key, low stress. It gives everyone a break, and lulls them into a false sense of security until the February Toppler :)

I hope Janice gives you an extra badge for that title! ☺

Finished:
8 - The Restaurant at the End of the Universe pub. 1980
9 - Tobacco Road pub 1932
Starting:
24 - The Screwtape Letters 224 pages

I'm wondering, too. Especially with next year's series challenge in mind.

Oops, thought I was on latest page and so hadn't seen this. This series in on my tbr list and so I'm considering giving it a go for 2015 challenge.

Since I am really tired, I am going to bed. I think I am going to stop with this book.
If I get up early tomorrow and decide to skip church, I might read another book.
This is such a busy time of year!

Kristie, what did you think of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time?

Happy to report my crab-shrimp casserole was a huge success - first dish scraped clean - hee hee.

Not sure if I can finish reading two more, especially since my second is going to be The Great Gatsby.

Delta Factor was to be next but did not arrive in time. Must seek another 7 book, that I have in the house.
OH look!☻☺☻ 373 Westlake What's The Worst That Could Happen?

So far enjoying The Bat. Lots of iconic places in Sydney, and I can imagine it perfectly. You can tell it's a translation and by a Brit though. Just certain phrases and words, that mean the same thing, but is either a European or British way of putting things, not an Aussie one. Little things, but just those things that kinda jar you.

I'm at my sister's and will continue reading my book. Doubt I'll finish by noon, but I'm sure going to try. I've got 260 pages to read to finish.

Nope. I completely mean to set aside the 24 hours to read. And my mantra today was "I need to go read my book". But do you think that was listened too? Hell no.

It was interesting. I'm not sure how to rate it yet. I liked the point of view of the autistic boy. I wish the mystery had been more of a mystery. I wasn't happy with how that part turned out, but there were other interesting twists. There was a very long train scene that I didn't care for. It was definitely one of those books with good parts and not so good parts. I was thinking four stars until the mystery was solved, but the later part of the book wasn't quite as good.

(I think I'm going back to bed. I've started my 3rd book, but I'm probably not going to finish it.)

Ah, got it. I hope to read it sometime soon.

Wow 4 hours! I konked off for 9!! :(

The sentences are contructed in an odd way, and reading them is kind of like wading through treacle. Not in a bad way - I would have stopped reading if I found it bad - but in a way that forces you to stop and reread, and see which bit relates to which. It's actually incredibly interesting, and I think the writing style is deliberate to reflect the characters' experience of dealing with something totally alien to their experience, with no ordinary frame of reference to understand it with. When their unusual (to them) experience has come to an end, the writing style becomes clearer.
I really like the glimpse into South African life - I've heard various things about South Africa, from both black and white South Africans living here in the UK, so it's very interesting to read a novel that is set there, and to experience through reading some of the things they have talked about.

there is only 2 hrs and 15 minutes left and I am going to crawl into bed for a few hours of sleep before my daughter arrives. I hope everyone had a good weekend reading!

Good move! I love that book - enjoy and savor it. :) I hope your other book goes well!

3-Taken by Storm 231 pages
5- Home in Time for Christmas 285 pages
9- Dangerous To Love297 pages
14- published February 2014 A Ranch to Keep
89- Don't Ask Why published December 1989, also 189 pages

I'm afraid I won't be finished with my large book, but I'm enjoying The Wine of Angels a lot more than I expected. The author has really turned up the heat and I'm really worried about some of the characters.

I finished my first book. I decided to take it easy on myself and watched a silly movie instead of starting a second book which I knew I likely wouldn't finish.

Wow, that fast playback idea is super clever! Sometimes audiobooks move way too slowly for me, I'll have to see if I can do that on Overdrive.

Overdrive on the PC does have the speed up function but the app doesn't which is really annoying!
