I'm currently reading chapter 16. I don't know if I'm just imagining things, but I feel like I'm reading really fast. But, maybe that's just because WoK and WoR were so long, so this one feels like a short novel haha

Chapter 9 (view spoiler)[Vivenna seems so condescending to both Siri and Parlin. I like that she came to her rescue even though that would be something totally opposite to her training. But. But, again thinking Siri would be totally overwhelmed and awed with all the colours seems silly and it feels like she doesn't know her sister very well (or thinks she is so much better then her).
Also, walking around in her simple brown clothing is the suspicious thing here, not poor Parlin's hat.
Aaand, We got a mention of Kalad the Usurper. It's so similar to Kaladin's name, I wonder if that's just a coincidence. (hide spoiler)]

BEWARE ENDING SPOILERS for those that didn't read Warbreaker already (or don't remember and don't want to haha) (view spoiler)[I don't remember the details, but I do remember Denth and Tonk Fah turned out to be the bad guys. So I've been trying to see the signs this time around and up to chapter 13 some of what I caught is Tonk Fah constantly "joking" about killing and torturing people, Lemex mumbling that he won't give anything away in the end and the two of them staying after Lemex' death is very suspicious.
And Vivenna just wanted to give a ton of Breath to someone she just met. (hide spoiler)]

Lucija, I read very purposefully this time specifically so I can see the crossovers and the hints of who is good or bad, and I noticed Sanderson does give a ton of clues, but he does it in a very matter of fact way, so it doesn't seem like foreshadowing. The only very obvious one, and not in the second Mistborn series, is usually Hoid. He is always telling stories or begging or exchanging information... (view spoiler)[ I actually noticed for the first time reading the WoR, that Rock also mentioned having met him in the hot waters of his land, as a G-d... I just had not noticed that before. I remember him as Wit, as the storytelling master of the Worldsinger bridgeman, and as the dude who spoke with Shallan at the fair, when he brought the message from her brother, but this mention by Rock had totally flown over my head... Vasher is my favorite character in Warbreaker for sure. However, I hate Sadeas in WoR, but he would be awesome if he was even a bit more complex. I am saying that, because he really reminds me of Lightsong in outer attitude, but we can see that Lightsong is putting up a front of being shallow and uncaring, while he has a good and unselfish heart... But they have a lot in common in speech patterns.

Yes! I noticed that, though I wasn't sure if it was Hoid or just another worldhopper. But, I must say, I don't think I would ever have caught it if Iain hadn't mentioned that those hot springs are a place of power, so to say, that worldhoppers use to travel. (hide spoiler)]

Vivenna continues to do basically nothing, she just lets Denth do all the work. and it just seems unwise to (view spoiler)[show who she is to everyone, word will get around and we see it obviously did in the later chapters. Idrian rebels in town causing trouble won't do any good in avoiding the war. And I noticed they attacked the priest who was advocating nonintervention, but I guess that is a certain someones fault, as we'll find out. (hide spoiler)]
And I really don't like the way she treats Parlin (hope I got the name right).

In chapter 20 Siri begins to explain the letters to God King and says that S is Shash. Wasn't that also Kaladins brand. And now that I think about it, what was that Heralds name that destroys all art depicting her. Wasn't it something similar? (hide spoiler)]

I also have an art question. At one point Vasher says that he didn't consider black to be a colour before. Isn't that because it isn't? At least, that's what my art teacher used to say, white and black aren't colours haha

I started as well :) I really enjoy the new world and the magic system, it took me a bit to get used to it tho, it's again pretty different from both the Stormlight and Mistborn. It reminded me a little bit of Elantris, can't say exactly why, maybe because parts of Elantris were described colorless as well...

Re Chapter 6 (view spoiler)[ I agree with what you said about Vivenna and her father... Yeah, yeah he's the king and has really complicated decisions to make, but to send his youngest daughter just because she seems to mean less to him was horrible!
I like Siri, she's pretty strong, I admire her and the way she endured the whold procedure. I do think that she might make the best out of her situation here :) (hide spoiler)]

Huh, didn't make that connection between Elantris and Warbreaker, but honestly I don't remember much of Elantris. It was the first Sanderson book I read and I read it years ago.

About the love triangle - I didn't expect that from Sanderson in this type of book setting. We already have plenty of action, intrigues, plotting and subplots going, we didn't need that. I am OK with all of them learning more about each other and developing respect and friendships, but not romance like that... Also, Shallan is so sheltered, she had not had any boys relationships while at home, and it seems like every attractive and somewhat paying attention to her boy becomes a potential love interest... Stop it, Shallan!!!

I know she is only 13 years old, but even at thirteen most people want to make some strides... I just finished Warbreaker

(view spoiler)[I liked the progression both of the sisters had throughout the book, both basically became what the other should have. Siri becoming this important and self assured queen - that was supposed to be Vivenna in the beginning. And Vivenna particularly had a nice character progression - from an uptight princess to an amazing Awakener.

I was sad to see what they'd done to Susebron, but I kind of agree with the priests. I mean, that much power in one man's hands is, well... not good. Susebron turned out to be good guy, but what if he grew up having access to all that power? Maybe he wouldn't have grown up to be such a sweet man. And besides, he could've just as easily been a terrible man. I feel sorry for him, but I also agree with the priests that it was necessary. I like how they were gonna let him live in peace when they got a themselves a new Godking.

I really like Vasher. I loved that scene when they saved the priest's child. There was this one scene where Vasher was holding the girl in one hand, Nightblood in the other and slamming the door with his leg. That was amazing.
It's interesting how every Returned subconsciously made themselves an ideal representation of beauty (in their opinion).
And Nightblood steals every scene he is in. I love his interactions with others. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ Lightsong is a better man then he thinks he is, just the fact that he has that level of introspection shows that. I think has a good heart deep down. I quite like that he questions his own religion. And I'm curious to know what happened in his previous life, what he did that was so brave and why Llarimar is loyal to him. -I really like Llarimar too.

And I don't know what to make of this God king... The fact that he seemed nervous when Siri approached him, could it be possible he actually doesn't know what to do? And that he was confused by her faking their sex session- which I thought was clever of her lol- he seemed almost innocent? Could it be that he's as much a prisoner as Siri? Are the priests forcing him to do their bidding? That Treledees seems capable of it. (Even Lightsong can't get out of his "duties").

Bless Siri, I feel so sorry for her. She's been thrown to the lions, I hope Lightsong decides to do something to help protect her. I really like Bluefingers; at least there's one person she can trust, hopefully she can find out more about what's going on from him. I think she's capable of doing what it takes to survive. I do like the contrast between her starting to hesitantly enjoy the frivolity like the choosing of her outfits, compared to Vivenna's assumption that she wouldn't be able to cope.

I really want more of Vasher as well, he seems really interesting, a shame it hasn't cut back to him yet. I feel like him and Vivenna are gonna clash soon.

I feel like Vivenna's destined for great things; I think that might be her on the cover. She's very lucky that the mercenaries have stayed loyal to her, considering everything they've found, otherwise she'd be fucked. I like that she's determined to undermine the war against Idris even being nearly completely alone in a strange city, very brave. I like that she's losing control of her emotions too, like come on, all that suppression can't be healthy can it. (hide spoiler)]

Yeah, I didn't expect it either, I think you're right that it wasn't really needed, though it did provide a bit of light heartedness. I've eventually come round to the thought that Adolin and Shallan could be good together, even though I wasn't keen on it a first. They do kinda compliment each other. Yeah I do think Shallan needs to be her own person and really build her character before jumping into all these relationships, but tbf that betrothal was set up by Jasnah.

And the fact that he wanted Siri to read him a children's story, he must still only have the intelligence/mental capacity of a child.... I did jokingly think to myself that no-one's given him any sex-ed lessons after Siri had been displaying herself to him for a week, but it looks like that actually is the case... (Like how the hell can they expect him to actually have a child then?!!) Switched so fast from being mad at him to pitying him.

Denth and Tonk Fah's "humour" is starting to grate on me, that got old real quick.

Yeah, I agree, but I must say I kinda enjoyed it. Slow pacing doesn't bother me usually, in fact, I prefer it if it's executed properly. It let's me ease into the story and get to know the characters before everything goes to hell haha. But I definitely agree that Vivenna's parts weren't as good as the others (and I didn't like her very much, so that didn't help eather).

Vivenna's parts are also my least favorite... I still love Denth and Tonk Fah and their humor. I'm also really curious to learn more about them as I suspect them to be more than just mercenaries

Oh, that chapter with Siri and Susebron communicating with each other was so sweet; her trying to explain everything to him. He really is childlike and innocent. And I was right, he has no conception of how to make babies! (Excuse the pun lol). And the way he trusts his priests and thinks they are good men breaks your heart, he has no idea how horribly he's been treated- it's almost like Stockholm Syndrome.

I wonder what Denth is really about... you're right Anni, there's much more to them than just being mercenaries.

So during the Manywar Kalad/Peacgiver/Vasher was the ruler (or maybe just a scholar)/the one who was responsible for starting it and during that time the royal line ran from Hallandren and settled in Idris (I think) and only after the Manywar the first God King was chosen and the whole ruling/religion based on Returned was established. I'm not sure about that obviously, but just my guess. So it was after the Manywar the Godking was chosen and when Vasher gave him his wealth of breath for safekeeping. (hide spoiler)]

I just immediately thought that it was Vasher because from what I remember Peacegiver was the first Returned wasn't he that stepped on those lands right? Along with the other 4 scholars.
