ABANDONED. Sci fi novel/series with weapons that change shape

So I read this book a couple years ago, it was the first book in the series and I can't remember the name of it or the author.
It was a Sci-Fi book, with hints of historical and steam punk aestheticism, and it was about a young man whose family was overthrown from the throne. He went on the run with some loyal soldiers and his sister.

One of the interesting things were the weapons, the weapons could shift shape slightly according to the needs of the user, there were slight telepathic controls I guess.
