It's read in a style (and narrator voice) very similar to Brandon Sanderson's YA Skyward and its sequel, and it's throwing me a little. But if swearing and/or sex were a thing Sanderson wrote, Spensa would totally be Gideon, so it's working for my headcanon.

Oh, yay! I'm super excited about this pick since I already have it checked out from my library. I just got my hold yesterday for last month's pick, so I'm going to have to power-read through that one, and then hopefully dive right in to Gideon. :D

I thought there was room for improvement, but after a rocky start, the book steadily improved and now I am completely on board for the next one. I did, however, HATE the relationship between Gideon and Harrowhawk for most of the book. Everything was always pitched at 11, which was just too dang much for me.
