NetGalley - Requests and Read Now Advice

PattyMacDotComma wrote: "Ooooo #NetGalleyRage - what an interesting idea! And now that there's a hashtag, I guess it is "a thing" now. 🤣."LOL... I must admit that I sometimes feel a bit affronted when a publisher rejects my request for a book, particularly if I've been approved to read earlier instalments in the same series. I tell myself I won't bother reading their stupid book ... but then I usually relent when my curiousity overtakes my stubbornness. I'm more likely to borrow from the library than purchase, though... ha ha, take that mean publishers!
Brenda wrote: "Hahaha!!! Love I won't bother reading their stupid book... sounds like a little kid Sarah ;)"Same little kid attitude here, I'm afraid! Silly, I admit, since they don't give a hoot about me.😊
Brenda wrote: "No they don't give a hoot about any of us Patty!"I must say, though, that in the past few days I've had several really lovely interractions with authors whose books I've recently reviewed via NetGalley. Their appreciation really does make it all seem worthwhile...
Well netgalley must’ve got more complaints than just mine because I just got this emailHi there,
We are very sorry about the confusion around access to Shrines of Gaiety by Kate Atkinson yesterday. We are trying to determine what happened, but in the meantime we have restored the title on NetGalley, and you should now be able to access the book as normal.
so #netgalley rage averted!

So definitely worth being a squeaky wheel!

Looks like a good outcome!
I've just been granted a copy of Listen To Me (Rizzoli & Isles #13) by Tess Gerritsen from NetGalleyUK, if anyone else is interested in requesting. https://www.netgalley.co.uk/catalog/b...
I now have 5 books all due for release on 7 July... very excited to read all of them though!
Well maybe another #netgalleyrage but the same old publisher issue discussed before.Harpercollins Australia is still omitting to put in a Kindle download for their books. Their two new titles are ones I’d be interested in reading but I REFUSE to read them on my iPad.
Sure I might read them from the library eventually or maybe not but I won’t leave a review. I just think….their loss! (Not that I have a blog or anything but I do talk books to many people)
Would love to understand their reasons as HarperCollins UK has kindle downloads🤷♀️
Yes I'd love to know their reasons as well Marlin. It's frustrating. I don't bother to look on their page anymore - perhaps once in awhile to see if it's changed..

Can you contact Harper Collins direct (maybe on FB) and ask them

I emailed the publicity person from the website today, so see if I get a response. Otherwise I might try Facebook via pm…I don’t like posting to the pages.
Brenda wrote: "Good luck Marlin - let us know what they say (if you get a response) please :)"Will do🙂
Brenda wrote: "Good luck Marlin - let us know what they say (if you get a response) please :)"Here’s the reply, basically don’t think it’s going to happen….
Hi
Thank you for your email.
Unfortunately, we do not have our epublications available prior to the publication dates of our books.
I apologise for the inconvenience.
That's actually rubbish!! They just can't be bothered!! It's strange as you'd think they, and their authors, would appreciate reviews... their loss!
marlin1 wrote: "Here’s the reply, basically don’t think it’s going to happen..."That’s a contemptibly dismissive response! I wonder why they bother at all.

I've just been offered A Cornish Recipe for Murder, the next book in Fiona Leitch's "Nosey Parker" cosy mystery series featuring police officer - turned caterer / private investigator Jodie "Nosey" Parker. It's a quirky and fun series, that I'd recommend to new readers. For anyone who's interested, here's the link (publishes 18 August):

I did ask for a bit more clarification and this was the response…
Hi
Thanks for your email.
I apologise for the miscommunication on my end. What I meant to say was that we do not have the kindle version live until the publication date of the book in stores. Only the epub is available prior to publication date.
Have a great day,
Still think it’s a bit of a cop out on their part

Kindles read EPubs now so that shouldn't be a problem any more
Currently experiencing NetGalley Rage!!!! I have been approved for and downloaded Lying Beside You and last night I went to start reading it and it has disappeared! Has this happened to anyone else? I was sure it was on my Kindle :(
Kylie H wrote: "Currently experiencing NetGalley Rage!!!! I have been approved for and downloaded Lying Beside You and last night I went to start reading it and it has disappeared! Has this happene..."NOOOOO... I hate it when that happens! The book is now archived, of course. I suggest emailing the publishers and explaining what's happened. Most will email you a link.
Sarah wrote: "Kylie H wrote: "Currently experiencing NetGalley Rage!!!! I have been approved for and downloaded Lying Beside You and last night I went to start reading it and it has disappeared! ..."P.S. I'm reading it at the moment, and it's definitely worth fighting to get a copy...

Kylie H wrote: "I left feedback that I am unable to review it as my copy has disappeared! Is yours through Kindle Sarah? Usually the Kindle editions don't disappear but I have had it happen when I have had to read it through the Netgalley app"I think you should email the publisher directly - they're unlikely to read the reasons for your non-review on NetGalley. Although, if you've already hit the "I will not review this title" button, the horse may already sadly have bolted... don't volunteer this when you email them.
Mine is Kindle via Kindle App for iPad. The titles you read via NetGalley Shelf do expire 55 days after you download them (I set a reminder to re-download the day prior to archiving, if I haven't yet read and/or reviewed).
Kylie H wrote: "Currently experiencing NetGalley Rage!!!! I have been approved for and downloaded Lying Beside You and last night I went to start reading it and it has disappeared! Has this happene..."I read it on my kindle a while ago, but I've checked and it's still there so something weird must have happened to make your copy disappear. Definitely worth contacting the publisher.
Publishers sometimes offer books quite a long way in advance, I think I had a Robert Dugoni book some 7 months in advance, and until yesterday, the record for me was probably the new Anstey Harris book for which I was approved 8 months in advance of the publication date in Jan '23, but the one approved yesterday probably takes the prize: publication date 25 May 2023!
I've woken up to several new approvals for titles I requested yesterday. Some others may be interested in:1989 by Val McDermid (publication date: 11 October) https://www.netgalley.com/catalog/boo...
The Christmas Murder Game by Alexandra Benedict (publication date: 4 October) https://www.netgalley.com/catalog/boo...
Baekjo Laundry Has a Neat Answer to All Your Problems by Lee Jae-in (publication date: 11 November) https://www.netgalley.com/catalog/boo...

I just went and looked for another Netgalley book that I know I have downloaded and not there! When I checked my kindle settings, my 'sned-to-kindle email address' it had changed from what I have set up in Netgalley!!! So i have updated this and resent about 5 books that had not come through.
I have no idea, it is not something that I have consciously done. I tried to download a book that I noted was missing and noted the 'email' it was sending to from Netgalley so checked and it was different. It must have happened in the last couple of months. It's quite strange. I have never had a problem with it before.

Glad you've sorted it out. It would have taken me much longer to work it out (and the books would have been archived before I did)!

Things seem to change all the time. Today when I purchased a kindle book from Amazon I was asked to confirm the address I wanted it to be sent to. Usually it just sends it to my kindle. Only if I wanted it on my iPad would I have to change it.

Did you ever have another phone? I've got Kindle, ipad, and phone. I had to delete some old phone addresses, too.

I think that's a bit mean of the publisher to renege on an offer to readers, even if it was made in error. I wonder how many rejected readers will now bother to read the book. Is NetGalley rage a thing?"
Ooooo #NetGalleyRage - what an interesting idea! And now that there's a hashtag, I guess it is "a thing" now. 🤣
