NetGalley - Requests and Read Now Advice

Thanks Sharon, this one sounds really good :)
Thanks Sharon, I have it on my kindle! I will read everything by this author without reading blurbs or reviews!

Yes I’ve read quite a few of your reviews, Brenda and I think that’s how I might come across her. She has quite a few books too :)

Thanks Janelle - that sounds amazing!

Well I requested it because I love everything this author writes but I doubt very much I will get it:) Still you have to be in it to win it!

I requested it and was rejected, even though the same publisher approved me for the previous book, Oh William!

I know that feeling itt can be scary :)

All the time Sarah!! I had 5 this month all released on the 7th June!!

Yes! What's with 7th July? I have 5 books releasing on that date! Plus another 6 on 5th July. Gonna be a busy week.

I have 1 on July 1st, 1 on July 6th, 4 on July 7th, 1 on the 12th, 1 on the 21st, 1 on the 22nd, a busy month. Some will be posted late...

I have obviously requested quite different books, June has been the panic month for me with several due close to each other! Being the data nerd that I am, I have my NetGalley books in a spread sheet sorted by date of publication and I try to work to it in between other challenges and reads. I also check my spread sheet before I go in and make any requests, I have forbidden myself from requesting anything being published before September - but I don't always listen to myself LOL!

Glad I am not the only one with NO willpower when it comes to books :)

OMG - you're up for a busy couple of reading weeks!

It's strange, isn't it? I wonder if it's correlated with the timing of particular review publications (NYT?) or something, like the cluster of film releases timed to coincide with Academy Award eligibility for a particular year?

I hear you Marianne - and I suspect we're reading a lot of the same books, as I often see you've been just before me on the commercial reviewing sites!

LOL! so glad to hear I'm not the only data nerd who has to resort to spreadsheets to keep the reading in order - here's my Excel Gant-style chart for June:

Imagine the aliens in Toy Story doing their OOHHH!! that is me looking at your beautiful spreadsheet Sarah

Hahaha ... I love it! I'm a visual thinker - the colour-coding helps!
Now, show me yours!

LOL despite my nerdishness, to show you my spread sheet would require a level of technical ability that is quite beyond me at the moment. Perhaps if my oldest daughter is feeling a little generous when she gets home from work she may be able to talk me through it. But essentially picture a black & white accounting spread sheet, substitute figures for book title, author, pub date and archive date and that is pretty much it!

Love it Sarah!
I don’t get through nearly as many so I just add them into my Google Calendar with an alert one week out. But I do check the calendar for order of reading, unless it’s something I’m really keen on.

That's a good idea too!

I don't know Sarah - but we all seem to be suffering from the same malady ;)

Ah, I love a good list, but I must admit I can waste a lot of time making them instead of getting on with doing whatever it is I'm adding to the list. Still, it's satisfying to see things done and deleted!

then, this morning: Dear Member,
Earlier today, Wishes were granted for THE SHRINES OF GAIETY in error - and so the publisher has archived the book at this time.
If you were unable to download the book before it was archived, please use the Will Not Give Feedback option rather than submitting a review.
BUT
I was sitting there last night when the book was approved, and I hit "send to Kindle" straight away, so yay for me!!! It's sitting there on my Kindle waiting for me :)

Oh yes, I definitely identify with this - the pleasure of completing lists gives a lovely shot of dopamine to the brain of we Type As!

Yes, it's a delicate balancing act between lists that enhance productivity and lists for the sake of lists!

Well done Marianne! The early bird catches the worm. I think that's a bit mean of the publisher to renege on an offer to readers, even if it was made in error. I wonder how many rejected readers will now bother to read the book. Is NetGalley rage a thing?
