I've got it but haven't started yet. I would email the publisher direct Marlin because as yet I've had no response from any messages to the publisher in NG. Alissa would be very disappointed about that too as she's not getting the correct rating for the book. I can get in touch with her if you like?

I've just sent a message to Alissa, Marlin. I'll let you know when I receive a reply :)

Marlin, Alissa has responded:

Hi Brenda, thank you so much for your message and also the heads up. I really appreciate it 🙂 I'm so sorry the quality of the book uploaded is so poor. Will email my publisher now and hopefully they can look at it all on Monday. Thanks so much again 🌷 xx

Also:

Please pass on my apologies to Marlin and also my thanks for downloading SMD even though it was impossible to read 🙁 Just emailing publisher now xx

You can't Karren - or I can't anyway. Phrynne can tell you what app you need but it's never successful. I don't request/download them when they're PDF because I can't read them on my laptop.

Same, miss out on some great books by favourite authors because I refuse to read in an app. I most likely will read them eventually from the library but never leave a review for them only a rating, so figure it’s their loss as I always review my Netgalley books.

You can read it on the NetGalley app but it's not very friendly.

Yes, that's exactly right. Harper Collins AU is the main one who only ever releases NG books by PDF. Quite a lot send PDF to kindle and they're fine. It's the only PDF which isn't fine.

The app I use is Digital Editions but it puts the book on my iPad, not on my Kindle. I don't mind too much for the occasional book but I really prefer to read on my Kindle.

I was using that on my old tablet but it stopped working. On my new tablet I have the NetGalley app, not the friendliest, but will do for books I really want to read.

message 1166: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1543 comments Like Marianne, I use the NetGalley App for iPad to read the PDFs. It’s not as good a reading experience as Kindle, as you can’t highlight passages. Also have to be mindful of archive dates, as the titles on Kindle App only stay live for 55 days from download. I wonder if this trend towards PDFs is actually driven by NetGalley wanting to generate traffic to their App, rather than publisher preference.

I have just received another response from Alissa, Marlin.

Hi Brenda 🙂 Thanks so much again for the heads up about the net galley issues. Just heard back from publisher and someone from digital was going to look into it and by later this afternoon an updated copy should be available to download. Fingers crossed problem is fixed.

When I asked if people who had downloaded it would be notified so they could get the updated copy she said:

Good question - to be honest I'm not sure but they might surprise me 🙂 They also should hopefully answer any messages that have been sent to them about the corrupted file.

So there should be an updated file from tomorrow Marlin which you can download if you wish :) Good luck with it.

I didn't look Brenda, I requested a copy and was approved. Harlequin Australia doesn't normally send PDF's and I'm rather disappointed and upset.

Kylie | 113 comments I have recently download The Nurses' War to my Kindle The Nurses' War by Victoria Purman from NetGallery and the version is extremely hard to read.

It has Text randomly through in larger font with "reading Material" not for sale or some such, seems to be missing a few words etc.

Just a heads up for anybody else that has applied for this book

I have messaged Netgallery and they are going to contact the Publisher to see if they can receive a better copy.

It is such a shame, as it is a beautifully written book, so I still trying to read it, even with the bad format.

It's really weird but when you search for title & author, it's not showing up but when searching on isbn (found on NG), it's showing up The Crimson Thread

Maybe, it's just been created so GR database hasn't caught up yet... dunno...

Scroll to the bottom of the page Helen. On the LHS is the ISBN and what sort of book it is (paperback, hardcover, ebook) on the RHS is the format and if it says Kindle (PDF) that's fine. If it just says PDF, it's not fine!! Bookouture for example always has Kindle (Mobi) which is the ideal one to get.

Karren Sandercock (karrensandercock) | 1077 comments My husband is into IT, using adobe digital editions that Phrynne told me about, he could open the PDF file and he found a legal program that converts the file and I can now read Diane Armstrong's book on my kindle. He's extremely careful, doesn't use illegal software and made sure it's virus free and I wouldn't get ripped off. It's called Epudor, you can use a free trial, we tried this and I only recived 20% of the book or you can pay for a years subscription and it's $38.00.

Exactly! It seems strange that they discriminate against people who want to read on their kindle only.
