They both sound really good Brenda but I am going to be strong LOL
Just thought I'd mention that Sulari Gentill's new book The Woman in the Library is still available for request.... 5★ read for me
I still haven't been approved or declined Marianne - I want it desperately but Poisoned Pen Press still have it pending for me. I requested it when it first appeared :(

I'm tempted but I already have a lot of books for May ... and as Brenda says Poisoned Press is not always forthcoming.

a bit like Carolyn with Soho and the Mick Herron books
Ah well. This applies to both - I like them so much I am perfectly happy to pay to read their books:)

I see that Harper Collins Australia books are now all in either Protected PDF format (which seems to default to the most unsatisfactory Adobe Digital Editions app) or via the NetGalley app. I wasn't paying attention to the format when I requested them, but luckily my library has them on order.I might have to see if there's enough space on my ageing tablet to fit the NetGalley app.
I’ve noticed that too, Marianne. I find it quite annoying, as neither the NetGalley App nor Adobe Reader support highlighting or commenting while reading, which I tend to use in order to prepare my reviews. Added to that the peril of archive dates (many of which now seem to be being set earlier than publication date) and a little of the gloss of NetGalley is wearing off. I suppose it’s all symptomatic of the challenges the publishing industry is facing…

Yes, it’s been like that for a while. I’ve passed up a few books that I would have liked to read because I like reading on a dedicated e reader. I emailed them a number of weeks but no response :(
I rarely look at Harper Collins now for that very reason. The last one I was caught out on was The Hush which I'd forgotten to check the format. I was very fortunate to receive a copy from the author, so all was well. But HC would miss out on a lot of reviews for that reason I'd say!
I accidently selected a book which was only available in PDF so I put the Netgalley app on my phone but found it very unpleasant to read from. So I tried to put it on my iPad but it is too old to support the app.
In the end I managed a readable version using the Adobe Digital app. I won't be doing it again. If it is not available on Kindle I will read something else.

Apart from the iPad being much bigger to hold, navigation is difficult and There’s no way to highlight or make notes.

Thanks Brenda. Sounds good.

It's a bit of a nuisance, but it saves trying to scribble notes and interrupting a good read! I haven't used the NetGalley app. I use the Kindle app if I need to use the phone or iPad.
I've really enjoyed two previous books by Rachel Howzell Hall and I see that We Lie Here (pub 12/7/22) is Read Now. I grabbed it!
Thanks Carolyn, although I didn't get that one no PDF's for me, I did however add four more books to Netgalley List :)The Nurses' War
is up for request as is

Me too usually, but there are a few books I make the exception for. I wish HC would start making mobis available - I wonder why they don't.
I can do PDFs on Kindle, but Harper Collins only do "Download protected PDF" or "NetGalley app". I can't easily read the PDFs on my old tablet, but I decided I needed a new one: my old one is taking too long to charge and runs down quickly. So yesterday I bought a Samsung Galaxy S7 tab, so that I can read my Kindle books and maybe the NetGalley app too. Not being able to highlight is a pest, though.
Arrrghhh... and I keep on forgetting to check format before I request a title ... another PDF!I would actually have made an exception for this one anyway:
Dear Little Corpses, book #10 in Nicola Upson's excellent Josephine Tey series is now available for request through two publishers: Faber and Faber (publishing 19 May 2022): https://www.netgalley.com/catalog/boo...
Crooked Lane Books (publishing 9 August 2022): https://www.netgalley.com/catalog/boo...
All PDFs - you have been warned!
Phrynne wrote: "I am still only on #6 so I won't try for this one. Pity about the PDF format too."I know! I really miss the highlight function, as it helps me remember standout quotes, character names, locations etc. when I'm writing the reviews. I've read this series a bit back and forwards - still 4 or 5 of the books to read, but I've found so far that they've all been fine read out of series order.
Sarah, both of those are send to Kindle (PDF) which is fine - I read them all the time. It's the ones from Harper Collins which are straight PDF that I can't read :)
Thanks Brenda, that’s making me feel a bit more sanguine. I can understand why illustrated books are dispatched via PDF, but I do miss the highlighting when I need to use the NetGalley App or Adobe Reader.
Brenda wrote: "Snowy Mountains Cattleman by Alissa Callen is finally on NG!"YAY I have been checking everyday thanks Brenda :)
Janelle wrote: "The Murder Rule by Dervla McTiernan is up for request."Thanks Janelle! I have everything crossed that my request is approved :)
Janelle wrote: "The Murder Rule by Dervla McTiernan is up for request."Just a quick question what format is this book in do you know/ I don't like getting PDF's to read but the book sounds really good and I would like to request. Thanks for any help
