Hi Jen,

If you finished the book before the countdown it does not count. :( I know, it’s a bit confusing. Good thing is that, from now on, all books count. The countdown is over.

Also, of course you can list more than 3, the more the better, I just don’t want to give you lots of work. Feel free to list as many as you want :)

Gem ~ZeroShelfControl~ (zeroshelfcontrol) | 574 comments At what point in the month do the hands get passed out for the next month? I would hate to read something with a coloured cover this month when I could use it next month

Only at the end of the month! More precisely, after this March countdown

Oh, I think I misread your question! You’re asking when do we know our March hands? There is not a rule, but usually 2/3 days before the end of the current month from what I recall.

Gem ~ZeroShelfControl~ (zeroshelfcontrol) | 574 comments Yes the second one is what I meant :) Thank you

Gem, I own both Flat-Out Matt and Flat-Out Celeste for kindle and they are both able to be loaned out. I'm happy to loan them to you when you're ready for them if you'd like!

oh gosh what a lovely gesture!
I'll take you up next month and use them towards next months hands :)
**(starts googling how to lend kindle books!!)**

Jen (wwygadatlt) | 53 comments if you have ebooks, at least the kindle edition, it allows me to search the book for words, its no trouble at all. just need time. haha

message 159: by Noel (new)

Noel Diem (noeldiem) | 228 comments That's super beneficial - I definitely just copied everything into a note on my phone so I could try to remember them as I read.

Diana Costa | 1027 comments Helloooo! Time for another weekly summary:

We are doing really, really well! For the main challenge we have 39 open spots, of which 1 is a Draw 2, so we have 37 books left: 35 regular books and 2 coloured books.

Tina is CR a 4 Green (which also fits a 0 Green); Cyndee's green book (already on the SS) fits either a 0, 2 or 4 Green, so at the end, we just need someone to read a Green book that fits either a 0, 2 or 4. Volunteers?

Vicki has 8 books on her read shelf that are not yet on the SS. She is about to add them according to our messages. (This means 27 regular books + 2 coloured books left on the main challenge!)

For the mini challenge, we have 31 spots left. Bear in mind that there are 2 categories: words and numbers, and they must be found as follows:

WORDS:
word in title
word in text
colour of book cover
item on cover
colour of item on cover

NUMBERS:
page numbers
series number
publication date

So, numbers in text do not count. Also, numbers for the publication date can be the month or the day or the last two digits of the publication year. (numbers with 3 digits do not apply in these cases)

Words are easier to fill in the sense that we can be creative: the spelling does not have to be exactly the one on the spreadsheet: instead of banana, we can have bananaS; instead of airtight, air tight; also instead of cornflout, corn starch is fine.

I am going to list the ones I think will be harder to find:

WORDS:
airtight
cornflour
kiwifruit - just kiwi, or kiwi the bird may work here as well! :)
passionfruit - I am going to suggest that strawberries can be the fruit of passion, so we could use that?
peaks (maybe not be so hard - can be mountain peaks or the verb)
starfruit
thickened

NUMBERS:
definitely the ones with 3 digits, I think. Anyone with books with either 120, 270 or 300 pages?

Anyway, that's my opinion, but I would like to hear yours and if you have plans for your next reads. :)

Perfect! That solves the coloured covers then. :)

I've got books for 270 and 300 on my TBR I can easily knock out before the end of the month.

Off to check for the words in my next few books too...

One of the books I'm reading now has "airtight" :)

There are extra columns in the tracking spreadsheet for that!

Diana Costa | 1027 comments Noel wrote: "Have we gotten passion fruit yet? I found a book called “A Crime Of Passion Fruit” that I’m willing to listen to if we haven’t 😅"

We don't! Go for it!! :D

So here's where we currently stand:

270, 300 and airtight are covered by Cyndee
peak covered by Gem
thickened covered by Vicki
passion fruit covered by Noel

From the list of "hard to get", we have only left kiwifruit and starfruit. I know that kiwifruit appears in American Psycho but I don't know if I can get hold of the book. I think starfruit is a dilemma. Maybe we should go with a cover colour for that one, what do you think?

message 170: by Noel (new)

Noel Diem (noeldiem) | 228 comments Put me down for American Psycho too - I've been trying to read that book forever. I love the musical, but the book has always escaped me. It's just gathering dust on my shelves.

Maybe a book with stars and fruit on the cover? Is that possible? I wouldn't even know how to begin that search.

Sounds like a very good reason to read it then :)

I like it - stars and fruit on the cover! I'll investigate that.

Noel Diem (noeldiem) | 228 comments If not - Under the Starfruit Tree: Folktales from Vietnam? It's a YA book at 136 pages. I'd have to order it, but it's on prime

Gem ~ZeroShelfControl~ (zeroshelfcontrol) | 574 comments theres this on the website I regularly use....

I wont have time to read this week, but its a short one at 165 pages if anyone has a free eve :)

message 174: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 510 comments Diane, I know there are extra columns with the words listed, but some words are highlighted and I wasn’t sure if I have a word if I’m the one to highlight it or if the captain wants control of that. I assume highlighted words are already used words. I don’t want to mess anything up. I can add my own word “thickened” if that’s what you want. Just need to double check.

Oh, yes. Those are the ones already used. Just fill in your row, I'll highlight the words once I assign them in the mini :)

I saw that one too... Give me until tomorrow to check if I can find something else and then we decide.

Hey Diana, when I put Get a Life, Chloe Brown on the SS, I forgot to add that it had also been read by Vicki. I don't know if it's needed but wanted to let you know just in case!

I might have done this incorrectly. I added two words: vanilla and thickened to both places for the mini challenge. I used The Sea Before Us - Sarah Sundin and The Child Finder - Rene Denfeld. Would you please check and let me know if I did them all right. I wasn't 100% sure if you wanted me to put them in the greenish SS, so I did and if you don't want me to do it there just let me know.

Hi Vicki, they are alright, but next time you don't have to add them to the mini challenge sheet, just the tracking is fine and it's less work for you :) By the way, just to make sure, you used "vanilla" in the mini challenge but the excerpt you wrote on the tracking mentions sugar and cinnamon. I assume there is another sentence with vanilla, correct?

orange
passionfruit -- Noel
pen -- Gem
plate
starfruit
stomach
white
2
3
6
24
120
270 -- Cyndee
300 -- Cyndee

Jen (wwygadatlt) | 53 comments Are we going to try a pudding recipe as well?

message 193: by Tina (new)

Tina | 768 comments Also, I'm trying to decide what to read next and since I don't read as many books a month I want to contribute where it counts. What should I focus on? Is it only something for the mini challenge or do we need anything for the main challenge as well? Looking at the spread sheet for the main challenge there are a lot of books missing, but I don't think Diana has put all the books there yet, is that correct? However, that makes it difficult for me to know what to pick as my next book:(

message 194: by Noel (new)

Noel Diem (noeldiem) | 228 comments Vicki - were you ever able to get those 8 books that you've read on the sheet? Do you need some help? I can try to glean information from the GoodReads page if you don't have time.

Tina - For now, maybe focus on something that has the widest spread possible? Maybe something with a T or an S?

I think we should definitely try for the pudding recipe!
