Jokes on that reputable author cause we already established nobody reads in! We all just promote ourselves and talk about how come up with our characters' shoe sizes and the Nordic mythology that inspired our hidden symbolism there.

I've just spent hours, with Justin's help, going through folders, searching for and deletng self-promotions. Though that's being polite. It was mostly spam.
It was awful. Truly awful.
I don't enjoy targeting anyone, but I feel it needs to be said that fantasy authors, in this group at least, have been the worse spammers.
More than anything else, what I've taken from this endeavor, is disappointment.
It was bad enough finding a rec for mainstream award winning fiction that has a wikipedia article, hard-hitting blatant self-promotions that made me physically ill, or finding a traditonally published author who had sneaked into this group months ago and promoted themselves.
What was worse was seeing 26 comments.
We are all to blame. No exceptions.
If I see a topic I might question, but it has 5 comments, I'm going to assume it's a legit topic. I'll trust the members. Right now, I'm not feeling the trust I very much want to place in all members. Come on. In a group with 1400 hundred members, hundreds upon hundreds of topics, you can't expect me, or any of the mods, to have the time or energy to read every tiny word.
Please. If you see a topic that doesn't belong or seems spammy/questionable, don't respond. Contact a mod immediately, and allow us to do our jobs. Don't ignore, look away, and pretend the problem topic will magically disappear, because it won't. Contact us. Right away. And we will deal with it.
No exceptions.
