Getting to Know You

How are you doing on your 2014 Reading Challenge?
I predicted 50, then bumped it up to 75 and I'm one away. Although there's a few short stories in that total.
Groan. Don't ask. I set a goal of 25 and I've read 17, which includes three novellas, a teen book, and a picture book. Can I read 8 before January 1? Tune in to be disappointed!
I'm pleased with myself although I did not, and probably will not, reach my goal.My goal was 140 and right now I'm at 124, which is pretty accurate. There may be a beta read or two not included in that.
My reading has seriously dwindled over the last two years. I'm reading more news and fewer books. How sad is that?

Tressa, it is sad. I'm doing exactly the opposite and I think I'm happier. Next I'm going to practice saying no to more things.
Damn, Irena! Congratulations! Congrats to everyone! Reading, in any amount, is something to be celebrated, whether or not a certain goal was met. That's how I'm looking at it. :)
I just set out to read more books than I did last year, which was 20. So far, I've finished 10. I started Dead Sea by Tim Curran in July, made it to 45% and just put it down and haven't picked up anything else. But I've been dealing with a lot of heavy stress the past 6 months, so I really haven't gotten much of anything done. Still, disappointed in myself a bit for it.

I know. My volcanic ulcer would die down if I stopped reading the news and worrying about things. But I want to be aware of what's going on. But maybe I'll try to even things up and do more reading and less news.

But I have experienced similar reading slumps throughout this year. I started The Paying Guests which I've once again picked up, and am also currently trying to read King's newest book, which for me isn't as good as people are telling me it is.
I had a goal of 60 and I've read 66. Now I'm just trying to beat the number of pages read from last year. Only about 800 pages to go, I think.
Kathy wrote: "Since I got my Kindle fire, I've read more this year than I have in awhile!"I had the same thing happen when I got my Kindle.
Completed my goal of 93 books this year.I cancelled my cable two years ago, so I literally cannot watch the news; and I am a more happy, well adjusted person now.
If I watch an hour of TV a week, that is a lot. What TV I do watch is usually with a 2 year old in my lap....loving some Thomas & Friends.
I set my goal at 20 for this year, and I'm currently at 31. I just got a Goodreads account in August, and I didn't add the date to a lot of the books I read before August. Otherwise the total may have been a little higher. But at least I met my goal! :DNext year, I'll probably double the amount that I finish the year off with and set that as my goal. :)

159/125. Nice to make my first year's goal on GR, but my output has dropped off exponentially in the last fortnight. I though I was going to make 175 at one point.

Kathy wrote: "Since I got my Kindle fire, I've read more this year than I have in awhile!"I got a kindle fire a week ago and I've been a lot more focused on reading because of it. When I read on my iPad I get so distracted.
My goal changed a lot throught the year. I left it at 60, and now I'm at 66 books read. Seeing if I can make it to 70, but no promises.
I've read 48 out of 50 so I should be able to do it with the two books I'm reading now.
I knew my challenge was over the moment I started reading IT by stephen king, I'm 2 or 3 books behind and there's no way I'll catch up, I plan on reading the stand next year so I'll set a realistic goal with that in mind
I failed miserably. My goal was 100, I lowered it to 75 a few months back and right now I'm nowhere near that. Dreadful. I'm hoping next year is better.
I did fine. Said I'd read 50, thinking I'd read 25, read 57. I do tend to read some fluff now and then though so I technically wouldnt 'count' all of them. I did horrible on the 2014 Horror's Best Books challenge. I only read 7 from the list! apparnetly the horror I read is not the 'best'!

Whoohoo, Kate! Congrats on the new Fire. :)
I'm at 102/100 so far. I think I will be able to get a few more in. Also over 26k pages read which is my highest so far.

Thanks Kate. Not too shabby yourself. If it were a race I'd be looking over my shoulder ;-)

All-in-all, I am pleased with my results. I am on target to hit the 130 target I set for myself (which includes shorter fiction titles as well as novels) and more importantly, I show that I am at almost 21,000 pages read. That will be a personal record.
I did come up short on one front though. I put together a list of 10 books that I was going to read this year come hell or high water. I have read exactly one of them. Hmmm.
