dely | 5485 comments 18) Il filo infinito Viaggio alle radici d'Europa by Paolo Rumiz Il filo infinito: Viaggio alle radici d'Europa di Paolo Rumiz 5*

There isn't an English edition. The author tells us his journey through Europe talking about different topics, but above all about the Christian roots of Europe saying also that Europeans forgot the values of Christianity. This leads to nationalisms and populism, and puts one European country against the other, and that there will never be a real unity until we don't accept our roots. And being between Russia and the USA, we (Europe) need to be united. He moved from one Benedictine abbey to the other, from Italy to Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Hungary, and back to Italy.
It was so so so interesting!

English edition: We

One of the first dystopian novels so it is pretty important in literature, but I didn't like it a lot. Written in the form of a diary, the thoughts of the main character are too fragmented and the narration is not fluid.

No English edition. This ebook has been made by an Italian publisher during the lockdown. He asked common people to send short stories about their lockdown. At the end the publisher chose the best stories and did this ebook that can be downloaded for free on its site. All the stories were really good. Some were very moving, others a little bit boring, but all in all the publisher had a very good idea and put together some enjoyable stories.

English edition: On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous

This is a wonderful and powerful book! About discrimination but above all about looking for our identity when we live as an immigrant abroad. Wonderful, wonderful! Such a poetic language. Oh yes, it talks also about the importance of language, both our mothertongue but also that of the country we live in. The author lives in the US but has Vietnamese origins. And he talks about how difficult and hard life can be when you are always considered a stranger.

dely | 5485 comments 29) Viaggio in Portogallo by José Saramago Viaggio in Portogallo by José Saramago 2*

English edition: Journey to Portugal: In Pursuit of Portugal's History and Culture

It was pretty boring. The author travels through Portugal (his homecountry) explaining to the reader all the places, churches, castels, museum, etc. he visits. Nearly 500 pages of only this. Pretty boring but I managed to finish it only because I liked his writing style and how he managed to enthrall me.

English edition: "A Small Death"
I couldn't find an English edition on GR, but it has been translated into English. It's the fictional biography of Ibn Arabi, one of the most important and famous mystical Sufi.

It was an interesting read and above all it was very flowing and enthralling. Despite the over 500 pages, I've read it very fast.
