How can I make this better? 25,000 word Y/A Ghost Story

This is a short novelette of 25,000 words. I'd like feedback on it because I want to know how I can make this story better or more interesting. I just feel like something is missing. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Paul, are you ever planning on following through with this 70 page read at all by chance? I was just curious.

I'm sorry but the beta reader paul.badics@yahoo.com (Paul Badics)never followed through with the reading. It was free anyway, so it's not really a big deal but I'll just leave this up here so you don't waste your time with him in the future.
