Trying to find a specific series

Hi, I have been trying to remember the name of a series. The men are ancient warriors from an Alien race. They have a tree on their torso that loses leaves as they age. They must find their mate in order to replenish the leaves on their "lifemark". There are Vampires with healing powers and lycanthropes, all three species guard the portal to their home planet.... does this ring a bell for anyone?? I have read several but I seem to be drawing a blank as to the author or the name of the series. Very frustrating!!
