I’m not a fan of horror stories. Not because of the graphic violence. And not even because of some paranormal aspect (if there are). But because these stories just never make any sense to me. So, please take my 2 stars rating with a grain of salt. I was going to be brave this year and tackle some books outside of my comfort zone and this is one of the first books this year.
On the one hand, the suspense was absolutely well-done! Eric and Andrew have gone to their holiday house with their adopted daughter at The Cabin at the End of the World. They are so isolated that it could either be so very safe or so very helpless. Four strangers arrived at their doorsteps seeking entrance & carrying strange sinister tools. From this point onward, suspense was truly built and the narrator (I listened to the audiobook) did a fantastic job with her very hypnotic voice, that you just had to go on.
I can’t really tell you why I don’t like it because it’s a major spoiler but suffice to say that I thought it rather silly/unbelievable. I do understand the point/theme of it but the way it played out was just
The ending also left me both content and unsatisfied 🤫
I’ll try a different sort of horror novel…
