Alyson Larimer The tale of despereaux is about a mouse who falls in love with Princess Pea. One of the major themes of the book if light vs dark. The light usually represents the good such as love, hope and forgiveness. The dark represents the bad, such as, betrayal, suffering and evil. The castle where the light comes through the window is the main representation of light, where as the dungeon mainly represent the dark. The book follows the mouse, rat, and princess as they struggle to escape "the darkness". Forgiveness is also a big theme through out the book since it has to do with whether or not they are able to escape the dungeon. Rusco does not forgive Princess Pea for things that she said which haunts him and tears him apart. The book has a lot of great morals and themes for kids that they can relate to. one of the most important ideas I think is that we should not let want one person does or say let it destroy us. We must forgive all and not hold grudges and we can learn to happy.
