Samuel Hill | 8 comments I believe that this book may have been in a series but I can only remember 1 book and even then only a little. The book starts off with the main character (a man, adult) who visits his friend who is having an intense staring contest (they are aloud to blink though, so it is more of a looking at each other without getting distracted contest). Our main character interups them and the other fellow wins. The main character has a camel (it could be a horse but i'm almost certain it was a camel) who only he can talk to and they go on many adventures together. There may have been a bird that he could also speak with as well. They would solve mysteries together and sometimes get into trouble. I was in year 5 in 2006 so it is a fairly old book. It is a rather big novel for a primary school kid and the cover was mostly black with parchment-like paper.

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5547 comments One of the Cairo Jim books by Geoffrey McSkimming? His companions are a camel and a macaw (parrot), and it looks like he can talk with both of them. The first book in the series is Cairo Jim on the Trail to ChaCha Muchos

They're novels rather than graphic novels / comic books like Tintin, but I'm guessing you meant that it was similar in terms of solving mysteries around the world rather than the format?
