Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments Can someone confirm that the UNO colors are blue, green, yellow and red? Or were other colors added?

message 102: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1659 comments Everything I’ve read says Blue, Yellow, Red, and Green. Mini challenges might have additional colors though.

message 103: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments That's what I figured but I decided to hold off any obvious color books anyway just in case.

message 104: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 510 comments Hey everyone! I’m still in Florida on vacation so I’m spending lots of time with family, which is such a huge blessing! Anyway I’m not chatting on GR a lot as a result.

Looking on my phone & reading some comments, it looks like I need to plan some color books. Is that right? I did bring my NOOK so I shouldn’t have any problems.

I just need to remember to sign up tomorrow! I put it on my calendar to remind myself. 😂

message 105: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 871 comments Just hold off on any green, blue, red or yellow covers if you can - those are the ones that we usually need in UNO!

message 106: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments Vicki the sign ups are open. It let me fill it out anyway.

message 107: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 510 comments Cool! Thanks, Mary. I’ll look for it when I get back in a few hours.

Robyn (robyn_r) | 87 comments Name - Robyn

Team Challenge experience - I have done team challenges before in other groups and I have really enjoyed them! It also helps me with picking out books in my ever growing TBR pile...Ugh at this rate I need all the help I can get.

Have you joined UNO before? This will be my first time playing

Favourite genres: Thrillers, Mysteries, Historical Romance, Historical Fiction, Contemporary Romance

Book you can't wait to read in 2020: Oh boy, does way too many count :) I actually have a shelf for 2020 releases. https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

message 109: by Sara (new)

Sara Hollingsworth | 643 comments Hi, my name is Sara.

I haven't done this UNO challenge before, so this will be a first for me. And I've never done a team challenge before, just personal ones. Hopefully though, this will help me pick books from my ever growing collection of books I need to read.

My favorite genres are sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, and thrillers, though I'll read pretty much anything. I'm trying to stretch myself these days and read things I wouldn't normally read.

Books I'm looking forward to this year? Mostly I'm playing catch up. My goal this year is to read some of these book series that have come out in the last couple years that I've collected and left to gather dust on my bookshelves.

message 110: by Franziska (new)

Franziska (chaoschild) | 136 comments Hi, my name is Franziska.
I played UNO last year and I loved it! :) So it was clear that I will participate in the next years as well. I kind of got addicted to team challenges with my first challenge in the "Nothing but reading challenges" group: Cutthroat. After the challenge I learned that it was one of the toughest challenges so far...

I am reading a lot of (true) crime, fiction and young adult, I am not so much a fan of sci-fi or fantasy. But I like novels about dystopias :)

message 111: by Maddielucy(Patti) (new)

Maddielucy(Patti) | 217 comments My name is Patti. I've never done a team challenge or Uno but I do individual challenges all the time so I get the idea. I'm excited to participate!

My favorite genres are mystery/suspense, historical fiction and chic lit

The book I'm most looking forward to reading in 2020 is "All the Ways We Said Goodbye"

message 112: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi ya'll My names Harmony. I joined this group at the beginning of January so this is my first year hearing of the UNO challenge. It sounds interesting and I look forward to participating in this group! I like to read a little of everything. I like to read a little of everything, though last year I took a deep dive in Ottessa Moshfegh's books and I am very excited for her new book Death in Her Hands.

UNO 2020 Starts on February 1, and sign ups will be open January 14th

Can't wait to start playing?

Would you like to chat to other UNO addicts - trust me there are plenty of them..."

message 113: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Oiney_Reads_Another (oiney_reads_another) | 66 comments This will be my first time playing, if im approved :) I love the idea of this challenge. I've set myself the personal challenge this year of not presetting my reading, and still completing the 4 full length challenges I enter each year. I am only reading books on my personal shelves, Netgalleys, and filling in the gaps with library books. Zero purchases this year!
1.Tiffany
2. I've never participated in a team challenge before, only lengthy personal challenges (a-z, popsugar, 52 in 52)
3. This will be my first experience with UNO
4. I really love to read all types of genres, but I tend to gravitate to Contemporary Fiction, Historical Fiction, Thriller, YA (all subgenres) the most
5. I'm really looking forward to reading a few second hand finds from last year, A Simple Favour and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Tammie | 1392 comments I’m looking forward to another round of UNO...I think this is my 3rd go. I’ve played and moderated many challenges...it’s changed my focus from t.v. to reading. I started out limiting genres but have so enjoyed expanding my scope of reading!
I love romantic suspense, mystery of any kind, contemporary...any novel where you learn a bit.
Looking forward to the latest BDB / IAD books... Where Winter Finds You (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #17.5) by J.R. Ward The Sinner (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #18) by J.R. Ward Munro (Immortals After Dark, #18) by Kresley Cole Shadow's Kiss (Immortals After Dark, #19; Dacians, #3) by Kresley Cole

I loved The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid Tiffany...a great book for UNO !

message 115: by Robynne (last edited Jan 14, 2020 07:16AM) (new)

Robynne Lozier I just joined Good reads this month. Never played UNO before so am looking forward to a new challenge. I live in Canada - just for the teams info. I also read e-books only. My eyes are not very good in my "old age" (I am in my 50s but I do have chronic health issues). I can no longer read the small fonts that books use.
Genres I read - lets see - non fiction., history, sci fi, historical fiction, biography, SOME fantasy but not all - most of the "high fantasy" I just cannot read. I am not into GoT at all - sorry. But I do like Naomi Norvik's Temeraire series.

I agree! I've got a few hanging around with numbers in their titles, so I'm excited to help my team!

message 118: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Great to see so many new players to UNO! It's my favorite game and I think I've played 4 times now. You all will love it! Sorry mods for posting on the other thread! I wondered why I was the first and now have started a flood of comments on the wrong thread. Eek! :o

I am looking forward to getting through some books on my TBR, but I always get distracted with good books recommended by my team mates, so I imagine it will be the same this go around too!

Excited for February 1st!

Robynne Lozier Melanie wrote: "My favorite genres to read are romance (historical, contemporary, suspense, & paranormal), thrillers, cozy mysteries, plus urban fantasy. I don't really read strict fantasy, I need the books to be at least based in our world or a world close enough to ours."

I thought I was the only one who read fantasy like this!! I too prefer fantasy that is based on a real world or a plausible world.

You have made my day Melanie!! I just signed up on 14th Jan. I was reading back over earlier comments. Melanie wrote her comment above on 4th January

Sarah Twiggs (twiggssl) | 572 comments YAY! I was just thinking about this - and so glad I didn't miss the email :-)

📕 Name - Sarah

📕 Team Challenge experience - I used to join what seemed like every team challenge, and then could never keep up :-(. This is my favorite one, and only one I do now.

📕 Have you joined UNO before? - YUP! This is my fourth year.

📕 Favourite genres - To be cliche, all of them.

📕 Book you can't wait to read in 2020 - My TBR pile is so high. I have really enjoyed the Hello Sunshine book club recommendations.

Luckily almost anything should work for at least something, as long as they fit in the length requirements!

The only exception I could think of would be a book late in a series (10+) that somehow didn't have any character names that could qualify...but hopefully that won't happen for you!

Harry Potter when I was a kid...

Everytime I see this, I feel so old!! LOL

I never read Harry Potter when I was a kid. The Harry potter books came out when I was in my 30s...

Like I said, I feel so old...

Robynne, you are not alone. My childhood was filled with Watership Down, The Tripod Trilogy, A Wrinkle in Time, etc. etc. But, as an adult, I did get in line at midnight to get the new Harry Potter book!!!!! Every time.

Rayne (raynebair) | 201 comments Hi all. I'm Brooklyn. I played UNO last year and have done loads of team and individual challenges in the last 6 years on GR. As for favorite genres, I think I'm partial to MM, but if it's interesting I'll read just about any fiction sub-genre except horror.

I look forward to another game of UNO.

message 130: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey there! I am excited to break into the Goodreads community and a group challenge is a great way to do that. Reading and doing challenges by myself gets lonely and while I don't have people offline to connect with over books, I realized from Booktube that there were lots of people I could connect with on Goodreads.
I will read anything but I prefer historical fiction, psychological thrillers, and memoirs.
I am eager for recommendations if anyone has any!

Uno Pixie: "We will start assigning teams the second last week of January and you will need to "check in" to your team thread by January 26 or you will be replaced."

message 133: by UNO Pixie, Our UNO Helper (new)

UNO Pixie | 1839 comments Just a reminder about sign ups, as stated in the rules:

"SPECIAL NOTE: If you signed up last year, but were replaced because the captain did not hear from you, or you withdrew from the challenge, you will need to send a message to the Pixie account as to what has changed this year. Your sign up will get flagged and you will not be placed in a team unless you message us first."

So far we have three people who signed up and have been flagged, but haven't contacted us. You will NOT be assigned to a team if you were replaced last year unless you message this account, as above, by Jan 21.

UNO Pixie | 1839 comments And another top tip....

When signing up your Goodreads User ID is a number followed by a dash followed by a name

I have just gone into the sign ups and changed a whole bunch that just gave their goodreads url (www.goodreads.com/example). This doesn't work for our formulas.
It must be a number, a dash, a name

We currently have two people that we are unable to find

Mikayla signed up as an id of "summertime"
Jodi Espindola signed up as "Jodi Espindola"

edit --- Third one is Sara Graine. The user ID of 151204-Sara does not relate to a profile that is a member of this group, or named Sara

You won't be assigned to a team unless you message us with who you are :)
