Just finished The Crown Tower, The Viscount and the Witch. Just started The Rose and the Thorn.
Will finish out the month with??

Currently reading In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin (not fantasy, but good; non-fiction that reads like a novel)
Just started Three Parts Dead
Next up: Fool Moon and The Alloy of Law

I read this a couple of weeks ago. I am of two minds. The dude can put two words together with skill, so I did enjoy the prose; but a plot is nice, too, and I was frustrated by the lack of one. Mainly I want the third Kingkiller book (in which, one hopes, at least one king will eventually be killed).

Hope to get to Michael Sullivan's books. Been on my list for a while, just need to clear the path.
;)

As for The Slow Regard of Silent Things - yes, some of the prose is nice - it just wasn't for me. But I fully recognize that it's just like art- some of it speaks to you and some doesn't.

Faefever, Karen Marie Moning (audiobook), an old favourite of mine. Like the narrator, Joyce Bean.
also,
Wings, Aprilynne Pike, liked it once but it's not as enjoyable as the 1st time now. Like it's not the same book that I liked it (had given it 4 stars before, now it's probably going to be 2.5 or 3).

Well put. Thanks

I have the Mistborn series on my "To Read" list. I also plan on attempting the first GRRM book . . . at least I know not to get attached to anyone!

I was trying to read a 'classic' Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb but for some reason and despite all the great reviews, I found it boring. The same happened with the Book of Life (just won best fantasy at Goodreads)
Can anyone recommend any Fantasy book that is not about the typical medieval knight and wizard or vampires and witches? I am little tired of the same.
I heard great comments of The Ankhs Red Marks the Child, set in Egypt.
Any comments?

Maybe The Drowning City by Amanda Downum? Or Range of Ghosts by Elizabeth Bear?

Hi we have a recommendations thread. You could try posting there with a few hints as to what you like or dont. People will help you out I am sure.

The black prism by brent weeks.
The blinding knife by brent weeks.
The falcon throne by karen miller.

I love the Prince of Nothing series for its ideas, scope, and world-building. In some ways it got me back into writing. The characters are well drawn... but not lovable. Aspect Emperor is still good, but we're waiting on book 3 (or 3a/3b? It keeps getting delayed. :( )
His Disciple of the Dog and Neuropath explore some other neat ideas, but in a modern setting.

Choice of the Cat
Sworn in Steel
I may also reread The Crimson Campaign since I rushed through it so fast after I bought it.
Banewreaker

I just grabbed Rise of the Spider Goddess: An Annotated Novel by Jim C. Hines and it's pretty funny stuff - I recommend it to all writers.

Always. Plus the mod stuff and job interviews.....
