Welcome to December! Tell the group about your reading this month. Do you like it, or wish you never started the book(s)?

I decided to finish up all of the Riyia books of Michael J Sullivan.Just finished The Crown Tower, The Viscount and the Witch. Just started The Rose and the Thorn.
Will finish out the month with??
Just finished The Fires of Heaven and Wolfhound Century.Currently reading In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin (not fantasy, but good; non-fiction that reads like a novel)
Just started Three Parts Dead
Next up: Fool Moon and The Alloy of Law
I was angered by the Rothfuss book and actually returned it (to Audible). I'd highly suggest reading the first chapter in a store before buying it. There is zero plot. So, you'll either probably love or hate the book. I will add that I did finish ALL of it.
I've started The Black Prism. The prose is kinda clunky and the narrator (audiobook) is not good at all. That said - the magic is really very interesting! I'm willing to keep going with it for sure.
currently reading A Maze of Death and plan to read Coraline, The Drowned World & Blue Remembered Earth

The dude can put two words together with skill, so I did enjoy the prose; but a plot is nice, too, and I was frustrated by the lack of one. Mainly I want the third Kingkiller book (in which, one hopes, at least one king will eventually be killed).
So far I am reading Hidden by Benedict Jacka, Grave Peril by Butcher, Heritage of CYador by L.E. Modesitt and Lord of Light by Zelazny. Really enjoying them so far... Probably be some more as the month goes on...

Hope to get to Michael Sullivan's books. Been on my list for a while, just need to clear the path.
;)
First day of the month and I just started reading Invasion by Mercedes Lackey. I've got several other books on my "reading" shelf, but for some reason I keep getting distracted by other books.
I'm planning on reading Riyia next. Already bought the first book. As for The Slow Regard of Silent Things - yes, some of the prose is nice - it just wasn't for me. But I fully recognize that it's just like art- some of it speaks to you and some doesn't.
Just re/reading at the moment. ~Faefever, Karen Marie Moning (audiobook), an old favourite of mine. Like the narrator, Joyce Bean.
also,
Wings, Aprilynne Pike, liked it once but it's not as enjoyable as the 1st time now. Like it's not the same book that I liked it (had given it 4 stars before, now it's probably going to be 2.5 or 3).

Well put. Thanks
I'm currently reading Hawkeye, Vol. 1: My Life as a Weapon. The art is beautiful & I love Kate Bishop. I'm also reading Lights Out, the final short story in the Doctor Who anniversary series. I'm hoping to catch up on my challenge as the semester wraps up & to dig into some longer books. Yay for a month long break!
I finished The Farseekers last night. I think it's fair to say I'm hooked on this series, so I've moved on to the third one, Ashling.
I'm re-reading David Eddings Malloreon, not read since I was a teenager at present on book 3 and still love it a nice easy read. Also have read Sandman Slim but did not enjoy.
For fantasy fiction, I'm reading The Mammoth Book of Warriors and Wizardry and The Dirty Streets of Heaven. So far, so good.
I'm re-reading The Night Angel trilogy by Brent Weeks. I'm finding it just as enjoyable as the first time with all the fast paced action.
Currently reading Gilded and The Passage. I'm enjoying the YA more than the "bestseller". I have the Mistborn series on my "To Read" list. I also plan on attempting the first GRRM book . . . at least I know not to get attached to anyone!
Hi all!I was trying to read a 'classic' Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb but for some reason and despite all the great reviews, I found it boring. The same happened with the Book of Life (just won best fantasy at Goodreads)
Can anyone recommend any Fantasy book that is not about the typical medieval knight and wizard or vampires and witches? I am little tired of the same.
I heard great comments of The Ankhs Red Marks the Child, set in Egypt.
Any comments?
Finished the Southern Reach trilogy with Acceptance and now for something completely different: The Worm Ouroboros by E.R. Eddison, which I last (and first) read about 15 years ago.

Maybe The Drowning City by Amanda Downum? Or Range of Ghosts by Elizabeth Bear?
Prince of Nothing series by R. Scott Bakker. Very impressive dark fantasy/dystopia. After that, the Aspect-Emperor series whcih is the sequal to this. And if time permits, starting on the Farseer Trilogy.

Inkling wrote: "Prince of Nothing series by R. Scott Bakker. Very impressive dark fantasy/dystopia. After that, the Aspect-Emperor series whcih is the sequal to this. And if time permits, starting on..."I love the Prince of Nothing series for its ideas, scope, and world-building. In some ways it got me back into writing. The characters are well drawn... but not lovable. Aspect Emperor is still good, but we're waiting on book 3 (or 3a/3b? It keeps getting delayed. :( )
His Disciple of the Dog and Neuropath explore some other neat ideas, but in a modern setting.
I'm reading Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson right now, though I won't be able to finish it before returning it to the library. Might immediately reserve it again, because I'm enjoying it.
MitosisChoice of the Cat
Sworn in Steel
I may also reread The Crimson Campaign since I rushed through it so fast after I bought it.
Banewreaker
I finished Sorcery & Cecelia: or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot and I really liked it once I got used to the style - it's epistolary. Very fun and light, magical Jane Austen type story.I just grabbed Rise of the Spider Goddess: An Annotated Novel by Jim C. Hines and it's pretty funny stuff - I recommend it to all writers.
I'm reading The Bone Clocksby David Mitchell (Cloud Atlas) which I think could be considered a fantasy. Enjoying it immensely.
Finished The Worm Ouroboros last night and will be starting E.R. Eddison's Mistress of Mistresses (first in the ever-so-lightly related Zimiamvian trilogy) tonight.
Just finished the Hush Hush series and decided to try something new; Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis......wishing there was a 5th Hush Hush book
Just finished The Slow Regard of Silent Things. It was very different but makes you want to know more of Auri's backstory.
I have finally got round to reading this bookPromise of Blood im about half way through and im loving it so far. Rifles, magic, monsters, armies, overthrown kings what's not to like
Anyone else finding it hard to keep up the reading with all the Christmas-related stuff going around?
L.G. wrote: "Anyone else finding it hard to keep up the reading with all the Christmas-related stuff going around?"Always. Plus the mod stuff and job interviews.....
Finished Words of Radiance, it was amazing, enough said. But now I seem to be in a rut, I've read a bunch of previews and nothing yet has managed to capture my attention, hopefully something will soon.
