Nicole | 143 comments sentence of the day:
He began to realize that his friends would see him as they saw a Christmas package, decorated to entice but wrapped to conceal.

Nicole | 143 comments I'm also enjoying the back and forth between the present and the past. I think for me the most striking contrast is between a younger Joseph who, while certainly awkward, is still making tentative attempts to connect to other people, and an older Joseph who has perfected his strategies for keeping other people at a distance.

Matthew | 86 comments Wow things have gotten especially good. Also a sentence or two I love:

"There was a poet who had written about a word he liked-"presentiment"- the author's name would not come to his tongue-such an annoyance, a sign he was flustered-and the poet had said the word referred to the way a lengthening shadow signaled the setting sun. It seemed a gloom-soaked poem, a gloom-soaked word.
