Stoner by John Williams is one of those books I've been saving for a 'rainy day'. I figure a pandemic qualifies, and my goodness, I'm glad I had such a good one tucked away. Terrific!

Even for Jeanette Winterson this is an unusual, funny, thought-provoking, historical fiction/sci-fi/sex-romp/love story. I’m not surprised Frankissstein: A Love Story was long-listed for the 2019 Booker. Hilarious and scary!

I like to have one audiobook and one physical (paper or Kindle) book going at a time, but recently I started too many Kindle books and then hit a hard slump. So, now I'm working my way through finishing the ones I've already started. I finally finished The Forgotten Home Child. It was really good and should have taken a lot less time than it did because it kept my interest.
I planned to read The Giver of Stars next, but it is due back at the library (electronically) in 3 days and I don't think I can finish it that quickly. I will have to return it and hop back on the long waitlist again.
I am currently reading Unfollow Me (75%) and hope to finish today or tomorrow. I'm also half way through Big Lies in a Small Town. I plan to finish Big Lies as soon as I'm done with Unfollow Me.
I will be starting Lethal Bayou Beauty for a challenge in another group, since I don't have any audios going at the moment. I think a humorous cozy should be the perfect read for me right now.
Finished and enjoyed The Help

Thanks now I cant wait to read it. I been hearing great things about it!
So I have received my first Book of the Month book--so exciting! I got Valentine by Elizabeth Wetmore, which centers around Odessa, Texas during an oil boom in 1976. All I have to say so far, as I am a hundred pages in now, is that she was really able to capture that anti-woman feel that makes me wanna hit my pillow haha.Has anyone else read a book that has made their blood come to a boil?
I have, Skylar. I think when the story can really get under your skin and get you fired up that's a sign of good writing. Otherwise, you'd just be annoyed at the author. lol I just got that book as well, but haven't started it yet. I'll be prepared.
I am always happy to revisit Canadian author Louise Penny's village of Three Pines. Too bad that death is the price of admission. I loved The Nature of the Beast.

Rereading Swami and Friends by RK Narayanan...A humorous read...delightful insights into the world of a school going child....children have their share of joys and sorrows too....An ode to childhood
I just finished Lethal Bayou Beauty. It was really funny, just what I needed right now to help me out of my slump. :) I'm not sure if I'm going to start Invisible Women or The Hobbit tomorrow.
Author Beth Miller gives us The Missing Letters of Mrs Bright, to explain Kay's coming-of-(middle)-age attempt to jump into life without a safety net.

Roger Ebert was a Pulitzer Prize-winning film critic, but before that, he was a classmate and friend of mine, so of course I've always enjoyed his reminiscences. I wrote some comments about his memoir, Life Itself, but I didn't 'rate' it, just gave it "two thumbs up"!
My thoughts about "Life Itself"
Currently listening to There There by Tommy Orange and reading an ARC of Photos of You by Tammy Robinson. Both are really good.
This is a sweet new children's picture book by Japanese author/illustrator Akiko Miyakoshi with a message that's relevant to our times in lockdown: I Dream of a Journey.

Last week, I was able to read Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert. After that, I immediately began On the Origin of Species by Charles Darwin.
I enjoyed this excellent, timely read that Aussie author and journalist Julia Baird has been researching for a long time. Phosphorescence: On Awe, Wonder and Things That Sustain You When the World Goes Dark just happened to be launched during a pandemic, right when we need it!

Several people suggested I'd like The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman, and they were right!
