PattyMacDotComma Terrific book by Eleanor Levenson, illustrated by Paul Boston, that is just what is says it is: World Politics in 100 Words: Start conversations and spark inspiration. I give the list of words and share some of the illustrations about how the world works.

Great for adults - not just for kids!

PattyMacDotComma Lucky's by Aussie author Andrew Pippos may have struck me on a bad day. Perhaps I wasn't paying enough attention - I got confused.

I have a hold on that one through my library, but it hasn't come in yet. Glad you're enjoying it.

That's the one early Stephen King novel I haven't read, believe it or not. It's never available in the library lol

I finished "We Now Return to Regular Life." It's an intense story about a kidnapped boy who returns home three years later, as a teenager.

PattyMacDotComma Jane Harper's Tasmanian coast in The Survivors is just as compelling as her outback in The Dry and The Lost Man. Evelyn Bay is such a small town that it's almost a locked room mystery. Loved it!

Probably within the next few months. :-)

Also, just finished Redhead by the Side of the Road. I believe this was one of our fall nominations this year. Amazing book- my first Anne Tyler since Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant.

Kristie | 5928 comments That's great, Christine!

Renee, I have that one from the library, but haven't gotten around to it. I have read it before anyway, but I haven't done hardly any reading in the past week plus.

I am currently reading The Unwilling and it's good. My lack of reading has nothing to do with the book. I seem to be in a mini-slump due to other factors.

PattyMacDotComma I have just finished The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley and adore his 11-year-old experimental poisoner/investigator, Flavia de Luce. This is the first of what seems to be a terrific mystery series - can't wait to find the rest!

Woman Reading (is away exploring) | 397 comments A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

This was much better than I had expected - not only because it's by Dickens (because I didn't like my HS experience with A Great Expectations) but because many adaptations had overplayed the sentimental aspects.

Just curious- why didn't you like Great Expectations?

I just finished a couple of books by the Japanese writer Sayaka Murata- I think she's brilliant. Hard to categorize, but I would classify Convenience Store Woman as dark comedy/society novel and Earthlings as...fable?
