I live out here in Irvine, CA. I've read a lot of books in my life and look forward to reading what this group offers. I mentor a group of 7th graders from my church (Saddleback). We meet weekly (Zoom, grrr) during the school year. I just got done taking another group from 7th to 12th grade which ended in June.

This is very similar to my story. =] What kind of secular books were your favorites? Maybe we can recommend some good Christian fiction with a similar feel!

Welcome Tom. I grew up in Buena Park many years ago. Glad you are joining our group.

We lived in University City right next to 170 for 10 years and Maplewood for 10 years before that. Small world!

Welcome, Summer! What genres do you like? I read a lot of historical fiction, and a few of my favorite authors are Kim Vogel Sawyer, Joanna Davidson Politano, and Sarah Sundin.

Here are a couple authors I like in those genres, Summer. Happy reading!
Mystery/Thriller
Joanna Davidson Politano, Lynette Eason
Romance
Tari Faris, Melissa Tagg

That's AWESOME! And welcome!! Willkommen! Bienvenue!

I'm the fantasy enthusiast! Let me know what you are looking for!
I’m less familiar with that genre. Anne Elisabeth Stengl has a fantasy series that I enjoyed book one. It’s got dragons and such but is clean from a Christian worldview, from what I recall.

Oh! There is a plethora of Clean/Christian fantasy! I happen to love the genre and most of my reads are centered around it.
Andrea is right, Anne Elisabeth Stengl is a great fantasy author. Her series is more allegorical fantasy. You can see Messiah woven throughout! Her mom, JL Stengl writes fantasy/fairy-tale. They are not as deep, so light reading for quick and cute reads.
Last year, I found a HUGE selection of Christian/Clean new-to-me authors with fantasy.
Morgan Busse
Shari L Tapscott
AG Marshall
KM Shea
Kenley Davidson (littered with some profanity, nothing else)
Brittney Fitcher
Heather Fitzgerald
If you need more, PM me or you can check out my "fantasy/fair-tale" list. The more recent ones have details like profanities or you know, whatever else could be construed as offensive or distasteful.
Happy reading!!

Welcome Gerri! How fascinating to live in London! I'm a lifelong resident of the U.S., but I have always loved all things British! The history is so interesting. The Victorian era has always fascinated me. I'm sure you will enjoy this group!
Pamela

Welcome back, Godwin! A few books I'm looking forward to reading this year (new releases) are...
When Twilight Breaks by Sarah Sundin
Night Bird Calling by Cathy Gohlke
A Castaway in Cornwall by Julie Klassen

Sure thing! Goodreads is currently having some issues with their search function, with not all the books showing up. If that's the case when you search for them on the site, try again in a few days. I'm hoping they'll fix the problem soon, but a friend told me it took a week last time something similar happened.

Which is why I write fantasy with threads of the above.
Thank you, Bess, for the wonderful fantasy author recommendations. I'll be looking at your "fantasy/Fair-tale" list as well.
And my dad really likes good westerns. I haven't been able to find any of those for him lately. (I did see someone in this thread recommend Stephen Bly.) Any other authors of westerns that a guy would like? Or mystery suspense?
Thank you so much! I can't wait to check out the other threads. See you there :-)

Can you
Karen Witemeyer's westerns are so much fun. Yes, they're romance, but they're also quirky adventures that I think anyone can enjoy. She's my go-to anytime I'm in the mood for a western.

that's great Bonny, what is your favorite tea?

I have really enjoyed Karen Witemeyer's books! She has long been a favorite of mine and I've read most of her novels. They never disappoint!

Welcome, Jinlo! So happy you've found us.
What kind of music do you like? I listen to mostly Contemporary Christian and 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s music (though I'm newer to the '60s stuff and still exploring that decade's offerings).
What book genres do you like? I read a variety within the Christian fiction genre, such as mystery, Gothic, contemporary, historical, suspense, and romance. Here are a few of my recent favorite books.

That's great! ^^ I LOVE romance novels so I'll have to check some of those out.
My music types are pretty much everything but heavy metal, a few of some really good songs are:
"There Is A Way" by Newworldson (SUCH an underrated christian song!)
"Put Your Records On" by Corinne Bailey Rae, and
"Say My Name" by ATEEZ.
Also if you like supporting debuting Christian artists I would suggest a guy I know named Eli Fox. He's a self published music artist and one of my favorite songs from him is called "Creator Divine".
Any songs you'd like to suggest for me? I especially love songs you can dance to. :)
Some of my favorite books are:

Thanks for the warm welcome.
I love that Newworldson song!
My sister gave me the CD "Wide Open" by Austin French for Christmas. When I listened to it, my first thought was, "I could dance to this." Not that I'm a big dancer or anything, but I can't resist a good beat. (Besides that, I do have a thing for the old styles of dance -- such as jive and ballroom -- a la Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly and Ann-Margret.) There are a couple of songs that get more rap-y than I prefer, but most of them are fantastic.
A favorite artist of mine is Unspoken. They've got some wonderful songs that inspire me and uplift my heart.
Ooh, those book covers are darling! I especially like the whimsical quality of that last one.
