Ed Worden | 4 comments Hi everyone! I'm new to groups on Goodreads, and thought I'd start with this one!

I love Christian history, but thought that this year I'd try something new. Any recommendations are welcomed ( I'm a CS Lewis fan and have read Stephen Lawhead ).

Thanks in advance!

Welcome, Ed! So glad to have you join us. Have you read anything by Gilbert Morris? I’ve enjoyed many of his stories, especially his House of Winslow series.

Ed Worden | 4 comments I'll check him out, thanks Andrea!

Bernard Mulholland As an archaeologist, Byzantinist and a historian, I tend to read a lot of nonfiction based around my own research. But I'm currently reading the film script Pulp Fiction by Quentin Tarantino. I found that reading published film scripts can add new dimensions to the films I watch. However, these days I am more into writing novels than reading them.
As a writer from Northern Ireland, I wanted to take my research to a new audience and the result is my new novel, a thriller, Nazareth Quest, which received a very good review in the November issue of Mensa Magazine. It is currently available to read on Kindle Unlimited, or to buy from only $9.99.
Nazareth Quest is a tense thriller set in Israel. I think it combines the best of the CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) franchise together with archaeology.

Also, some nonfiction that might appeal. My two The Man From Mensa volumes offer a history of the high-IQ society not freely available to outsiders, albeit the focus is primarily upon British Mensa, which was founded in Oxford during 1946. In May 2023 Irish Mensa will be celebrating its 50th anniversary.

And, if you are into higher education, history, archaeology, Ireland and/or the Byzantine Empire the you might like these:
--- , Ratio analysis of financial KPI in the Higher Education sector: a case study (Belfast, 2018).

---, Early Byzantine Ireland: a survey of the archaeological evidence (Belfast, 2021).

---, Navan Fort, Ireland: archaeological and palaeoecological analysis (Belfast, 2021).

And, lastly, can I take this opportunity to wish everyone a truly happy and prosperous New Year for 2023.

Hi, Litany! Have you read Vannetta Chapman's Amish Village Mystery series? It sort of combines the two genres you're enjoying at the moment. Here they are in order...
Murder Simply Brewed (Amish Village Mystery #1) by Vannetta Chapman Murder Tightly Knit (Amish Village Mystery #2) by Vannetta Chapman Murder Freshly Baked (Amish Village Mystery #3) by Vannetta Chapman

message 522: by Daisy (new)

Daisy Pike (daisyysobel) Hi, I've just joined the group (my first ever on Goodreads!) and am excited to get some recommendations from you all. I've been a bookworm all my life but since having my first baby just over a year ago I've really been struggling to find time to read. This year I'm hoping to get back to it! I love fantasy and historical fiction mainly, and am pretty new to the idea of Christian fiction :)

message 523: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 6243 comments Mod
Welcome, Daisy! Congratulations on the baby and joining your first Goodreads group! We’re so glad you chose us.

Here are a few of my favorite historical Christian fiction books, to whet your appetite.

My Heart Remembers by Kim Vogel Sawyer Twilight at Moorington Cross by Abigail Wilson The Element of Love (The Lumber Baron's Daughters, #1) by Mary Connealy Until Leaves Fall in Paris by Sarah Sundin The Lost Melody by Joanna Davidson Politano

Dorothy (dmantonya) | 5 comments Hello, my name is Dorothy. I am retired and seem to be just as busy as when I was working but now it is things, I want to do with no time constraints. I love reading and Christian books are at the top of my list.

message 525: by Tamara (new)

Tamara (daughterandheir) | 1 comments Hello! I am getting back into reading. I make lists every year of books I want to read and then... yeah, I don't read them. Haha! I don't really do New Year's Resolutions because I feel them so law-based and I, like most people, fail to live up to what I've set out to do then I kick myself for not doing it, then give up. Instead, I've created goals such as, "be a reader again," and "put more work into my rosary making," and "take more time to rest this year." I'm disabled and mostly homebound, but I end up serving people to the point of exhaustion, so a main goal is not "me time," rather more restoration of my body, mind, and soul so that I can serve more effectively. And to feel better, of course.

In all that comes reading! If I'm resting in bed 50% of my day then I can read more. Thus began my love for reading again in December.

I'm also learning to quiet my mind so I can listen to audiobooks. So far I've listened to A Grief Observed which I wouldn't recommend to anyone who is grieving - it's C.S. Lewis's diary of his grieving the loss of his wonderful wife, but it's pretty dark stuff. Also have listened to My Life Without God which, if anyone is interested in the history of how prayer was removed from schools, this is the son of atheist Madalyn O'Hair and how he came to become a believer in Christ, but not before aiding his mother in trying to banish everything Christian from society.

So, yeah, I look forward to talking with people about books again. I've got three going at once and that's about the limit I can manage. I tend to pick up one book and then another, leading me down a path of putting them on my TBR list.

Hope everyone has a blessed day.

Deirdra Eden (deirdraeden) | 2 comments I am happy to be apart of this group!
Books and the publishing industry have been a big part of my life. In fact, I would say it’s a calling.
I’m currently reading Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer.
On my too read list is: Christian Science by Mary Eddy Baker, The Book Of Breathings, and the Unfinished Tales and The History of Middle-Earth.

I am not a fast reader, perhaps because I have been trained to edit as I go. This is why I mostly enjoy audiobooks.

I am also an author, and I am finishing the last book in The Watchers Series. The “Watchers” are supernatural beings in human form, charged with protecting mankind from the armies of darkness.
Even though it has strong roots in paranormal theology I wrote this in a traditional fairytale style.

Last year I signed a contract with a publisher in Los Angeles, CA. USA and got an agent to represent me for cinematic publication (a movie deal).

Me and my beloved cats recently built a library together in an abandoned church. It’s a comfortable and fun place for me and the cats to hang out. Here is a video about the remodel:

I also have two book trailers that her can also check out in my website here: http://www.astorybookworld.com/p/the-...

I hope you enjoy!
