Dec 2014: The Wayfarer Redemption~ Roll Call/First Impressions

I read this a long time ago but I can remember my first impression:The Wayfarer Redemption was (yet another) one of those books that I picked up mostly based on the cover. This was in my pre-GR days and I'd never read a review of it. Just the cover and the blurb.
The cover was so magical and intriguing - I have to admit I judged a book by its cover. Sadly (but typically) I was wrong.
I might try reading it again- I liked the world, but the characters were my main point of contention. I too, was drooling over the awesome cover art when I picked it up. I can't really recall my exact first impressions, since I read it two years ago.
Prologue was good. I skimmed the glossary and became a bit skeptical re the names. I foresee having some problems with pronunciations in my head.
Count me in the "drawn in by the cover art" group, plus someone had recommended it to me after I mentioned Trudi Canavan (they're nothing alike, IMO). Made the mistake of buying the whole 6 book series before I had read the first. It was a awhile ago but I remember thinking it was a typically simple start to a fantasy series and hoping it got better. (More opinion than spoiler, but don't want to influence anyone's first read: (view spoiler))

I have a copy here and planning to get to it next week. I've read one other of Sara Douglass's novels (The Nameless Day) about a decade ago and gave it 5*, so I have high hopes for The Wayfarer Redemption.
I read this years ago and didn't care for it...my 1 star review is posted, LOL.I may comment a bit but don't plan to reread it.
Hmm, I don't recall any names being that weird - Axis, Faraday, Azhure, Borneheld...?I know I liked the world, and Faraday's storyline - it wasn't typical or what I expected. I'm thinking of the whole trilogy though so *shrug*.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I certainly wouldn't want to talk you into not enjoying it. :)

My cover and title are completely different and definitely wouldn't attract my eye!"I like the first cover much, much better.
Have to decide for yourself. I read it some time ago and didn't care for it. Matter of taste I suppose.
This was my introduction to adult fantasy so it holds a special place in my heart. I find Sara Douglass is just easy to read. I've never had a problem picking up and breezing through her books. I've read this one probably 3 times now.
