Suzanne | 349 comments It looks like someone called LiamKennedy is spamming many threads in this group. I blocked him from posting further on my thread. I wish there was a way to delete his posts. Can we please revoke his membership to the group?

Excited for this new year of polling!

The results from the pre-poll were published in the announcements thread. We will start creating separate threads for suggestions, voting, and results beginning with our regular polls tomorrow!

Sarah W (sarahsbookishreviews) | 17 comments Hi, I just joined this group even though we are half way through the year I would still like to participate. Can I use books I have read this year in past months or just the ones from now on.

message 58: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Welcome! You can absolutely count the books you've already read this year. It's your challenge and we are very flexible about what is allowed.

message 59: by viemag (new)

viemag | 180 comments Hi: I have a question: The prompt that states Read a book related to the 2019 Goodreads Choice Awards, Is that winners only or can it also be books that were nominated?

message 60: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
It can be nominated books as well!

Sarah W (sarahsbookishreviews) | 17 comments Is there Listopias for 2020? I found the 2021 but I dont see any for this year. Am I just missing it?

message 64: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Sarah, I think we deleted the thread when the weekly threads for each prompt came out. Each weekly thread has a link to that prompt's listopia, so you can find them there!

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3839 comments How do you add an edition that is not in GR? I have a book with 58 pages of editions but not the one I own! I want to use it for a cover prompt. Thank you!

Jackie | 2450 comments Mod
You'll need to ask the GR Librarians group to add it to the database.

message 68: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 484 comments I am looking at the 2021 list. I cannot find a link to week 11 - the egyptian museum? It seems like a fairly wide category I wanted to steer clear of something egyptian or with pyramids . On the websit for the museum there is a picture of a staircase could it be something like a staircase on the cover of your book

message 69: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
There’s a listopia for that week but not a weekly topic just yet: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

I think a staircase would be a broad interpretation (a “Keep it Simple” if you follow that approach). But it’s your challenge so totally up to you :)

message 73: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Cole | 7 comments How do people handle books that they start in Nov or Dec and don't finish until after the new year? (I know, ideally I'd finish a book a week, but I read several at once and currently several long ones and I'm not going to finish them all by Dec 31.)

I'm thinking anything begun in Dec I could count to either, but begun in Nov I have to count for this year. Just wondering if other ppl have this issue and what you do.

message 74: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
I count books by completion date, no matter when I started it. I typically finish all books by New Years Eve (just out of OCD), but I'm reading Harry Potter chapter by chapter with a podcast and those typically carry across years. I just put it in whichever year and month I finish it.

message 75: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin R | 1 comments Hello! I'm new for 2021 and starting my research now - where would I find the prompts that didn't make the final list (prompt 7?)

message 76: by viemag (new)

viemag | 180 comments HI! Can someone refresh my memory? What can we do if we don't want to read a particular prompt?

message 77: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Caitlin, if you go to that week's Weekly Thread, you can find a link to all the prompts that didn't make it in on there.

viemag, you can use a Wild Card and replace one prompt with a book of your choosing.

message 78: by Janet (new)

Janet | 7 comments How do I do this for 2021. This would be my first year. Is the place to put our plan and link to the spreadsheet available? Looking forward to this as I do the Popsugar Reading Challenge as well.
Thank you, Janet

Hi Janet!

You can post your 2021 Plan here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

The community spreadsheet will have the 2021 tabs go live a couple days before 2021 begins! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Betty Q | 109 comments It’s been a few years since I’ve done a challenge, but I’m ready to try again in 2021. How do I copy and paste with my iPad? I’m trying to copy the prompts list...

message 81: by Jackie, Solstitial Mod (new)

Jackie | 2450 comments Mod
Select all the text you want to copy by swiping over it, you should then have some options show up next to your selected text. Hit copy. Then go to wherever you want to paste it, tap in the comment box or on the word document or what have you, then hit paste.

That’s not working in the app. It won’t let me highlight. Oh, well, I just discovered I can do it if I go through the browser, so I’ll do that. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Thank you.

Oh yeah the GR app is not great. 3/4 of things you can do in a browser will not work in the app.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 3532 comments I saw descriptions for KIS and BIO (Bring it on), however I didn't notice these referenced on the results pages so far (I just started looking). Do these matter for anything? If so, is there a certain way to record them?

message 85: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
No, the KIS and BIO is just for you to up the challenge (or make the challenge easier) for yourself. Some members have a hard time wrapping their head around a prompt, so the KIS and BIO list is there to help you have a different way of looking at the prompt. You don't get bonus points or anything for them... they are just there to help you see the prompts in a different light.

message 86: by NancyJ (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 3532 comments OK thanks. The suggestions are really helpful and I can tell a lot of work went into them. I like the challenge of the BIO ideas. I already marked some of the items on my worksheet with little stars just in case. I also like the flexibility of the KIS ideas.

message 87: by Chafic (new)

Chafic (Rello) (irrell) | 2 comments Who would you say was the founder/creator of the original Around The Year in 52 Books challenge?

I was thinking of being overly ambitious next year and start a podcast with weekly episodes with each week/episode dedicated to a prompt - will have book discussions/what we read/what other good suggestions can work and have different bookish people (bookstagrammers or ATY52 mods? Maybe?) come on board and share what they read for the week?

Just wanted to check before I get ahead of myself if it was alright with the mods if I go ahead with this?

I'm not sure who created the group (I joined two or three years into the group being created), but as a mod, I think that would be really fun, and I say go for it!

message 89: by Jen (new)

Jen | 40 comments When I look at the little message I see right when I enter the group that lists my 2020 challenges (It has my profile photo and says "Around the Year in 52 Books Challenge" and then "You have read __ books out of 52" "You are X books behind". it says that I have read 42 books. And when you click on it to see my progress, there are 42 book covers, just like it says.
However, when I go to the shelf I created to track my progress (and it is the shelf connected to this challenge - I double-checked), it says that I have read 45 books. And there are 45 on the shelf.
If I go to the 2020 plan that I made myself, checking off each one as I did it, I have 9 left to read, meaning that I have read 43 books.
SOOOO, how do I get all of these things to read the CORRECT number, which I am going to put at 43 books because I am doing it manually?

This sounds like a glitch and something for the Goodreads help desk.

Check that you've set a read date for all of the books, that's normally the issue when mine doesn't match up :)

Looking at your ATY bookshelf these three books are not showing a read date The Poet X, Turtles All the Way Down and Will Grayson, Will Grayson.

Harry Patrick Just a note; the Community Spreadsheet is missing the G-L tab on the 2021 stats.

message 94: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
I'm not sure where you're seeing that, Harry. I'm seeing G-L on all of the calculations and the tab is at the bottom there. Can you point me to where you're looking?

Harry Patrick Emily wrote: "I'm not sure where you're seeing that, Harry. I'm seeing G-L on all of the calculations and the tab is at the bottom there. Can you point me to where you're looking?"

I'm not that familiar with Google spreadsheets but I see that other tabs in the stats formulas only list the other two tabs so I guess its right. I also see that a new community spreadsheet was created? Other than in the old spreadsheet is this link referenced anywhere else.

Yes, I moved 2021 to a new spreadsheet because the old one was cumbersome and slow... too overloaded. Please let me know if you notice anything amiss!

The link at the beginning of this thread and the one under Mod Corner both take me to the 2020 spreadsheet. Is there a new link I am missing? I guess that is what Harry is also asking.

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
You can find it in the description of the group. I'm going to update all the links for the 2021 spreadsheet tomorrow once everyone has had time to record their 2020 reads and it is officially January 1st for everyone. For now, you can access the 2021 spreadsheet through the link in the group description or through the 2020 spreadsheet by going to the 2021 tabs and using that link provided.
