Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Anstey Harris's new book The Museum of Forgotten Memories, also published as Where We Belong is even better than her first.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments I won a e-copy of Taking Tom Murray Home from the author Tim Slee via GoodReads but the format was too tiny for my 65-year-old eyes and there was no way to enlarge it. But maybe this was a cloud with a silver lining, because I noticed that Wollongong City Libraries had an audio copy on Borrowbox, read by Stig Wemyss, and what an absolute pleasure he is to listen to!! Funny, topical and moving, this is a truly entertaining read.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments A book that spans pre-history through to the present day, narrated by an extinct mammoth, a book that makes you think and laugh and keeps you interested? And gets my husband reading it too? Not every author can pull that off, but Chris Flynn does it with ease in Mammoth. Out today, this one is clever and perceptive and hugely entertaining.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments Roger Ebert was a Pulitzer Prize-winning film critic, but before that, he was a classmate and friend of mine, so of course I've always enjoyed his reminiscences. I wrote some comments about his memoir, Life Itself, but I didn't 'rate' it, just gave it "two thumbs up"!

Had hoped to avoid any DNF this year, and though swimming against the tide, I found The Book Thief by Markus Zusak The Book Thief by AA Markus Zusak a train-wreck too far; morbid. mawkish, pretentious. DNF at page 329

I wasn't particularly blown away by The Book Thief myself, so I don't think you really missed a lot. Definitely over-hyped in my opinion.

Carolyn | 9840 comments Well, this one was pretty full on. I gave myself nightmares reading it before I went to sleep, so it's one for those who don't mind a bit of horror in their thrillers. Very well written, fast paced and utterly compelling.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Private Investigations: Mystery Writers on the Secrets, Riddles, and Wonders in Their Lives I grabbed this collection of short non-fiction pieces from twenty mystery authors from NetGalley because Sulari Gentill was one of them, although I have read some of the others too. It is a mixed bag, some are wordier than they need to be, but Sulari’s piece is a highlight. Of the authors I haven’t read, Robert Dugoni’s contribution makes me definitely want to seek out his work. Some are 3★ reads, a few, 5★s. Overall, 4★s

I tend to dip in and out of GR because I'm usually pretty busy. Most of my GR time has been spent in the Historical fiction groups (for which I have a passion) but this is a dangerously addictive thread bristling with good ideas (and some really good reviewers) so I have to be careful I don't get lost in it.

Adrian Deans (adriandeans) | 143 comments I don't have a TBR except in my head. That would really complicate my life if I had one of those making me feel guilty every day.

I probably do as much writing as reading and would get waaaay behind schedule with a TBR.
