5 stars .....but if I was relying on the cover as an enticement it would have been left on the shelf. A picture tells a thousand words and this book is so much more than the cover, disappointing.

Jeanette | 400 comments The Edge of Lost by Kristina McMorris

4 stars
Learnt a little about vaudeville and even looked up some of the recordings, "By the Light of the Silvery Moon" my mother played the old 78's hard recordings on a wind up gramophone and later my dad belted out the songs of this era on our pianola. They were fabulous days. Advances in technology have made the world smaller but is it any better?

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Having read the free prequel in Simon McCleave's DI Ruth Hunter series, I also downloaded the first book, The Snowdonia Killings free. It promises to be a very readable series. I've already bought book two, The Harlech Beach Killings.

Dale Harcombe | 6882 comments My mother had a collection of 78s too, Jeanette. I still have them. The pianola brings back memories too of fun times gathered round singing.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments Even for Jeanette Winterson this is an unusual, funny, thought-provoking, historical fiction/sci-fi/sex-romp/love story. I’m not surprised Frankissstein: A Love Story was long-listed for the 2019 Booker. Hilarious and scary!

Carolyn | 9840 comments I think Killing Mind (D.I. Kim Stone #12) by Angela Marsons Killing Mind by Angela Marsons, #12 in her DI Kim Stone series might be the best one yet. So good!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments I like to consider myself an astute reader, and in Anne Buist's latest stand-alone rural thriller, The Long Shadow, I had, at 25% in, circled in red the name of a character who I believed was key to the story. But, oh boy, I would never have figured out that stunning ending! Wow!! So many red herrings and twists, there should be a whiplash warning.
This is a brilliant read!

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments I just finished an autobiography (I don't read a lot of them) that was an amazing five star read for me. I am sure all Australians know Ron and Valerie Taylor, well, Valerie wrote a book and it is as adventurous and thrilling as her life was. I can't link the author, because the GR linked author is the wrong one (I notified the librarians) but this is the book;
Valerie Taylor An Adventurous Life The remarkable story of the trailblazing ocean conservationist, photographer and shark expert by Valerie Taylor

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Despite being over 500 pages, The Nowhere Girl by Aussie author Nicole Trope is unputdownable. It lost half a star for an incorrect critical detail that impacted the story in a major way, and it's not possible to say more without spoilers. But an excellent family drama.

Brenda, I left them feedback on NetGalley but it's not something that would be all that easy to fix.

That's good, though I'm not sure they even see those comments. I've never had a response from any of mine. It's a shame that that's happened because others will also pick up on it.
