Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments I can't quite decide if I like Aussie author, Dervla McTiernan's second book in her Cormac Reilly series, The Scholar, even more than the first, but it's certainly another brilliant dose of Irish crime fiction.

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments What a debut! I absolutely loved When We Were Vikings by Andrew David MacDonald. Zelda is different and awkward and she knows it, but she faces life with an honest earnestness that I wish more people had.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments For anyone who likes a bit of gritty Scottish crime reading, the Harry McCoy series by Alan Parks definitely fits the bill. #3 is Bobby March Will Live Forever (the titles run on a "month" theme, Bloody January and February's Son being the first two). It can be read as a stand-alone, but there is background in the first two, so...

Took awhile for me to like this read eventually it made it into my heart. Not my usual genre, I always get too involved with the underdog.

Great review Alex. I absolutely loved this too, particularly his comments about customers, Amazon and Nicky's food offerings.

We had hoped to visit his bookshop later this year on a trip to Scotland (and Iceland) but it looks like that's been postponed for now....

That's bad luck Carolyn - it's happening to everyone at the moment. Hopefully things will be back to normal around August/September..

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Well Graham Brack (Josef Slonský series) has a new series out, The Master Mercurius Mysteries, set in 17th Century Holland and, having read the first book, Death in Delft, I can confirm this series looks to be at least as good as the Slonský series, and I do hope he has a lot more doses of Master Mercurius up his sleeve.
5★s from me!

The book will be published 6th April, and if you pre-order now, you get it for 99c/99p, tremendous value! and if you're self-isolating, you don't even need to go out to get it, it will just drop into your kindle on the day so you can enjoy a wonderful distraction from the madness that seems to have overcome the world.
