Sandra (sanlema) | 11283 comments I finished Charming Billy and rated it 4 stars. There is not too much of a plot there (everything there is to know is in the first chapter), but the characters were people so human and so real I felt like hugging them, and the writing mesmerizing.

I found out that this is exactly what works for me right now. I can't focus on an intricate plot, but getting lost among beautiful words had a soothing effect on me. For that reason I decided to start now Peregrinos, although it is not what I had planned for this month. I loved Sofía Segovia's writing in The Murmur of Bees and I am eager to read something by her again.

Kristie | 19218 comments I just started The Silent Patient and it drew me in right away. I swore I wasn't going to start another right now. I have too many books going at the moment, so I really shouldn't have, but it goes back to the library in a couple of days. It seems this is just what I am in the mood for now.

Janice (jamasc) | 60010 comments I finished reading Mutant Message Down Under. It was such a new age rage back in the 90's, and now it's been discredited. There were certainly some fantastical elements, but gives you some food for thought at the same time.

I'm going to dive into my monthly challenge book, Gator Bait and hopefully Fortune will make me laugh.

Don't forget to check out the buddy read thread for this!

Margo | 11663 comments Just finished The Constant Princess which I loved. This is no surprise as I love all Philippa Gregory historical fiction. I have read most of this series out of order but it doesn't really make any difference as it's easy to slot them together.

This author tells a good tale and its up to the reader how much to believe as much of it is unsupported. No one can know that was going the mind of people so long dead and buried and the existing documents only tell so much. I thank goodness that their authors willing to bring these characters to life and make educated guesses at what motavated them, as I'm too lazy to read factual books.

I'm half way through The Hunting Party and just starting a relisten of Into the Darkest Corner.

No worries. We had a good discussion if I remember rightly.

Sarah | 18550 comments I felt like I needed a fiction audiobook for when i'm doing chores, rather than the non fiction i had started before the pandemic. So I've started Sabriel.

I plan on reading this one soon. I hope. Best laid plans and all that. How are you doing with The Last Emperox?

message 412: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma I've got heaps of books left to read in Kerry Greenwood's delightful Phryne Fisher's mystery series. Here's my take on #2, Flying Too High.

I was really pleased to be back in the interdependency and see all the familiar characters. It felt a little slow at the beginning and there were a couple chapters with info dumps but now i'm into it and enjoying it. It could be me though and my poor attention span right now.

message 414: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Oh aand the beginning of Sabriel was really interesting so I'm curious how it will pan out.

Are you enjoying it? I really liked it.

message 417: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Loving it so far! I know many of the characters but am not familiar with the myths. It's great reading them, and of course Gaiman writing is fantastic as well.

message 418: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I was the same. Knew of the characters but not familar with the myths.

I totally forgot about this series and know I enjoyed Cocaine Blues. Thanks Patty for adding another 20 books to my TBR lol

message 420: by uncomfytomato (new)

uncomfytomato | 265 comments I started reading The Raven King and I've been trying to slow myself down, this is the last book of the series and I feel quite sad :( I'm getting so attached to some of the characters.

message 421: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60010 comments I finished Son of the Black Sword yesterday. I don't think I'll read the sequel. I just felt the story had been done before and nothing new was brought to the genre.

I will start The Companions today for the toppler.

message 422: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments Finished Death in Delft - a fun and enjoyable historical mystery - it's been awhile since I've read this genre and I might want to seek out more! My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 423: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19218 comments I finished Will My Cat Eat My Eyeballs? Big Questions from Tiny Mortals About Death and The Silent Patient today. I read Will My Cat Eat My Eyeballs? for the toppler, then decided to finish The Silent Patient because it was due to be sent back to the library tomorrow morning.

I'm planning to try to finish some of the (4) books I already have going, but I may also start The Sun Down Motel because it is due back to the library in a couple of days and there is a long wait if I don't read it before it goes back. This is how I always end up half way through too many books at one time.

Janice (jamasc) | 60010 comments I finished The Companions and Gator Bait yesterday. I was disappointed with The Companions. The premise sounded really interesting but the execution fell flat. Gator Bait was a good distraction.

I have started The Ice Princess on ebook and will start Origin on audiobook. Both are for buddy reads and both have a home on my trivia challenge.

message 429: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19218 comments I ended up going back to reading The Forgotten Home Child.

I haven't decided if I'm going to attempt to listen to The Sun Down Motel before it's due back to the library in 3 days. My grandson is coming today and I think the book might be too long for me to finish on time. I'm thinking that I will just send it back and wait a few months to read it.

I'm thinking of which book to start reading, possibly Dig. or Gullstruck Island

I'm sure you'll fit them in somewhere, Jayme. They are fun and not horrific like some of the other series.
