Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished The Fated Sky, the second book in the Lady Astronaut series (trilogy?). It was terrific. A ten star read for me.

I am currently reading The Hamlet Trap and will start Storm Front. Both are library text books and both for my Twisted Trivia yearly challenge. When they are done, I will finally have completed the tasks for one card.

I thought The Lady Astronauts was a trilogy but I see book 4 is in the works, The Derivative Base. I hope its not going to one of those series that goes into double figures, I thought I was about to read the final book, 3.

I'm hoping enough of it is set in Poland, but it does sound good.

Roz | 4544 comments I have down for Card 21 Yay Sports. For my Poland book I read The Yellow Bird Sings. It was excellent imo.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished listening to Dragonslayer. A new dragon trilogy goes onto my series list. This is a new series, narrated by Simon Vance. I know he did the first two books. I am hoping my library picks up the third one.

Onto my next Simon Vance "listen to", I started Memnoch the Devil. I love how the book starts with "Lestat here, you know who I am?" ;o)

I'll go for Bloody Rose as my next read!

a break from the Farseer trilogy since its gloomy :(

PattyMacDotComma I've enjoyed all the Graham Brack novels I've read so far, and the second in the Master Mercurius historical mystery series is another winner. Untrue till Death takes place in the Netherlands in the 17th century, full of murder and intrigue with the author's trademark humour.
Untrue till Death by Graham Brack 4.5★ Link to my Untrue Till Death review

PattyMacDotComma Anthony Horowitz's popular Magpie Murders has another fan. Two mystery novels in book. Loved it!

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished the audiobook of Memnoch the Devil. It was confusing but amazing at the same time. I am crushed that my library does not have the next several books in audiobook format. Hopefully, I can keep the voices that Simon Vance has created for the characters in my head as I read them.

I am currently listening to the fourth Murderbot novellas written by Martha Wells, narrated by Kevin R. Free. They are great!

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments I am readingThe Deserter. It id fast paced and exciting. I may have to read read something else at bedtime. This book is getting me revved up.

message 920: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4544 comments As usual I have a few going at once. I'm reading Mrs. Lincoln's Sisters and The Girl in the Tower. I've also downloaded the audio version of Master and Commander so I can start listening to that one. I'm eying a few more that I'm impatient to get to -- The Secret Chord (audio) and The Library of Legends (ebook). It's like being in a candy store, everything looks so good.

I went through the series earlier this summer. Love them.

Esther (nyctale) | 5199 comments I am a bit all over the place. I am listenint to the 1stof the Department Q series for the Monthly Challenge. As it is in CD, i need another more mobile option and I am listening to Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead for the book club at work.
I started reading El prisionero del cielo. This should take me forever. I am so slow while reading in Spanish. I was stuck in a waiting line yesterday and found Redshirts on my phone. So this is going to be my plan B when I do not want to take a real book along.

message 925: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished Exit Strategy yesterday. I got my granddaughter to listen in with me. She has decided to go back to the beginning and pick up the first story, All Systems Red. Esther - I think I picked up the first novella from one of your posts. Thank You!
Now to wait for the next one - eleven weeks to go...

I started listening to Champion just before I went to bed. Not my favorite - just fits into my yearly challenge.

I am just short (ten pages) of being half way through Storm Front. I am really enjoying Harry Dresden - Chicago's one and only Wizard P. I. Why have I not read this series until now?

message 926: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Esther - reading Redshirts while waiting line might get you some strange looks. How will you keep from bursting out laughing? I think it is wonderful that you can read in three languages.

well, it can`t be worst than one of the toppler when I was grocery shooping and listening to an audiobook. I can`t recall the title but I just started giggling. it got me some looks, which did not help with the giggling.

I just checked out my library site. They have most of them in paperback and ebook. Yay, I will be able to read on, when I am ready!

message 930: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60011 comments I finished Age of Death and am disappointed. It carried over from a cliffhanger and ended with a cliffhanger. The next book is the last book in the series so it has to have an ending - I hope.

I will start The Emperor's Blades tomorrow. It's the oldest audiobook on my TBR.

Really enjoying it so far. So many nods to old favourites! King is reading it himself which usually drives me nuts but either his narrating skills have improved or I have become used to his style because even his voice sounds OK-ish.

I hate cliffhangers too Janice. I own the first book of that series but from what you say, I'm not sure it's worth my time.

message 934: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments You should read it Margo. It's a great series and I know Janice really enjoys it, despite this comment. I think you'll like it too :)

message 935: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60011 comments I do enjoy the series. All the books are published now, so you can continue the series without stopping if you would prefer. I think a lot of my irritation is due to my current frame of mind.

message 936: by Cherie (last edited Aug 22, 2020 07:54PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished Storm Front! 5*s

I started A Conspiracy in Belgravia. This is the second book in the Lady Sherlock series. Unfortunately, I think I did not pay enough attention to the first book when I listened to it. I cannot remember a thing that has been brought up so far, from the first book, which I listened to in June. :o(

message 939: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments I am readingWarm Bodies. It is an entertaining take on Romeo and Juliet. Its involves a zombie who cant remember his name. He only remembers it start with R, He has fallen for a live girl named Julie. It is a fun read

message 940: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished Champion yesterday and put the next one on hold. I got a notice this afternoon that Rebel was available and it is downloaded and ready for me to start listening to.

I am really enjoying The Late Bloomers' Club The Late Bloomers' Club by Louise Miller . I remember buying the book for the bicycle on the cover for a forgotten challenge, but I never got around to reading it. I am reading it for the "food theme" on my yearly challenge.

Janice (jamasc) | 60011 comments I finished They Went Left. I had slotted this into my Poland read, but only 20% of it is in Poland and the rest in Germany. Bummer. I can't fit it in anywhere else. But it doesn't matter because it was a really good read. It made me consider a lot of things about the immediate after effects of the war on displaced persons.

I will start The Legacy of the Key tonight. It will fit the trivia challenge.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished The Late Bloomers' Club. I think I really needed a chick lit/romance book this weekend because I really liked it. It was a good story. This was for my yearly challenge.

I also finished the audiobook of A Conspiracy in Belgravia. All though the story, I kept wondering what it had to do with Belgravia. I still do not have a clue. I liked it, but I still think I need to go back and re-listen to the first book in the series again.

I am starting Sold on a Monday and Rebel. Both are for my yearly challenge.

Kristie | 19223 comments Cherie wrote: "I am starting Sold on a Monday...."

I'll be curious to see what you think of that one, Cherie. I got it early as a review book and started it multiple times. I just couldn't get engaged with the story. I've considered trying again because the concept appeals to me and I'm not sure what it was missing. Maybe it was just the timing for me? I hope you enjoy it.

message 948: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Kristie - re Sold on a Monday. I’m at Part 3 in the book. It is not quite what I expected, story wise, but the writing is good. The characters are pretty well developed and I do like the two main characters. The setting for the time that the story is taking place feels right. Something has happened but I can’t say what. The first part was a little slow.

message 949: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4544 comments I finished reading Mrs. Lincoln's Sisters and was going to start reading one of the other books I had borrowed but one of the books I put on hold became available and it took a long time to get it. Now I'm reading The Book of Lost Names. So far it's good.

@ Janice: It's a shame you couldn't use They Went Left but I'm glad you liked it. I'm looking forward to reading it.
@ Cherie: I read Sold on a Monday a while ago. I liked that one too.

I don't always remember everything about the books I've read. Must be old age. So now I write a synopsis for myself including the characters and especially the endings (good parts) and keep it in my documents. That way I can write a review later on or remember why I liked it, or didn't. Does that make sense?

Thanks, Cherie. I think that was part of my problem - it wasn't what I expected. I may try again some time, but I'm not in a hurry.
