This is a book I've been looking forward to read, unfortunately it is not in publication except in this big omnibus: John Brunner: The Sheep Look Up, The Shockwave Rider, The Traveller in Black, which I did buy and think of tarting it soon. If someone wants to join me you are welcome.

Probably not tonight as I might be busy, but I can start any time. I don't have to finish my current book to move to this one.

Okay, just time for me to finish up my current read. Just let me know. What are you listening to?

Oh, this has been on my list long-time, but big series are not very encouraging.

That's good to know

I'm going really slow as I keep my book at work. I cycle so I can't be bothered to carry that big omnibus everyday. There are interesting parts, but it is a real struggle for me. Again I don't want t give up, but it might take me some time to finish it.

Myles wrote: "I'm trying my best to finish this before Christmas (in case of book presents!); I've just started September."

I really couldn't continue with it. I had a plan to read it on the weekends only (after the plan to read it at work only) but decided to start reading other books as well.

Sorry I left you. I really didn't expect the book to be so tedious and I was so thrilled to start reading it.

message 11: by Rose (new)

Rose I thought it had a decent story but it was dated and the writing stle was awful. I would recommend it, not like a "OMG you have to read this" but as a fitting book in the dystopian genre especially considering how close his predictions of a dystopian future are so close to the reality of today.

Papaphilly | 156 comments This was a tough read and it is tedious. I think that was on purpose by John Brunner, to slowly drag the reader through the muck as the world dies. It is a classic and I can understand why, but it is certainly not a fun read.

I took this book out of the library and "tedious" is the word I would use also. I couldn't get through it, either.
