Nicky46 | 3 comments Hi!

My name is Nicole and I am from the United States of America. I love to read thrillers/mysteries, literary fiction, nonfiction, and short stories. I found this group while searching reading challenges 2021. I have been in a reading slump and I miss my Barnes and Noble reading group so much! I'm so excited to be reading with others again! My goal is to read 80 or more books in 2021.

message 1203: by Karin (last edited Dec 25, 2020 12:03PM) (new)

Karin | 228 comments Hi, I joined recently. I am Karin and am a dual citizen living in the States. I read a variety of genres and everything from light and fun to long and deep, but try to avoid reading things that are really dark (or at least seldom) any more, and have a few that I avoid because I don't like them and, often, I have read those in the past even if those books aren't on GR.

I think there is another Karin here, so you can tell who we are by our avatars, although as soon as I can get hold of my old one I plan to replace this one which was supposed to be temporary.

Chaise (chaiseschriber) | 3 comments Hello all my name is Chaise and I am from the United States. I read a variety of genres although primarily fiction books. That being said I enjoy a lot of mystery, fantasy, scifi books of both YA and adult. I also enjoy true crime audio books. I was looking through the groups trying to find ways to become active in a community of people with a common interest. For 2021 I think my goal is going to be 52 books again. I really want to try for more but my husband and I are going to be buying a house and moving this year which takes times!

kaotickitten | 2 comments Hi all my Name is Autumn. I live in Michigan. Have beautiful little Yorkies that sit with me while I read. I am trying to cut the phone and tv time down. So more reading for me. I read all sorts of things from short stories to mammoth reads. I also read all age groups, from kids to classics. I will be reading a lot of short stories to break up the book I have wanted to complete since the mid 90’s, War and Peace. I seem to do run on sentences lol so not a stickler for grammar from others. I am glad to have found a new group to add too. Anything else you want to know about me just ask. Oh and I don’t judge books based on the level of difficulty or poor grammar. Just on whither I enjoy them or not. I do cry and get second hand embarrassment (for the characters ) from the books I read.

Lisa Campbell | 1 comments Good morning! My name is Lisa, and I live in Vermont, USA. I love historical fiction, mysteries, middle grade and young adult fiction. Memoirs have recently begun to appeal to me, as well. I am also absolutely in love with independent bookstores, but new and used! Thanks for adding me to the group!

message 1210: by Kaycee (new)

Kaycee Lovett Hey guys my name is Kaycee, I used to be an avid reader in my teen years and I let that hobby die in my 20s. Well, I'm about to turn 30 in a few months and I'm looking to pick up reading again!

message 1211: by Wolf (new)

Wolf Ostheeren (hazelwolf) | 8 comments Hi there! I'm new, too. My name is Wolf and I live in Bavaria with my dog and horse. And I read as much as I can, with my TBR still growing all the time. There's no such thing as "too many books"! I love epic as well as funny fantasy, fairy tales and myths, literary theory, nonfiction (mostly equine and canine) and the occasional classic or cosy mystery. But I'll also read anything that catches my eye, regardless of genre. I haven't done a challenge in quite a while (except the annual goodreads challenge) and enjoy reading whatever I want quite a lot, but thinking about my reading in 2020 and planning for 2021, I remembered that weird prompts made me pick up books that were collecting dust in some corner and hunting for specific things I'd never picked up otherwise in the library... Little adventures. So I'll give it a try again next year and found this group to do it. I'm looking forward to reading with you!

message 1212: by Rita (new)

I discovered Goodreads last month, and I love it. It's a great way to organize my readings.
I hope this group will motivate me to read more.

message 1215: by Nedge (new)

Nedge Hi, I'm Jen from Canberra, Australia. I like to read fiction, mainly YA, mysteries and historical novels, and my favourite authors include Diana Wynne Jones and Jo Walton. I've dabbled with Goodreads for a couple of years and for 2020 I gave myself the challenge of reading 100 books; in early December I didn't think I was going to make it, so popped in a few novellas/short stories, but now it's looking like I'll manage 110 for the year. I'd like to take on some new challenges for 2021 to get myself out of my current reading comfort zone. I think I'll set the overall total books bar slightly lower (76-100 for the year), and try and start doing a few reviews (scary - feels like being back at school!). I'd also like to take on new challenges so I'm motivated to read some titles I mightn't have tried otherwise, which is why I decided to join this group. It's great to have resources like this in Goodreads :-)

suzanne_between_pages | 28 comments Hi everyone,
I am Suzanne, 38 years old, living in the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Reading books is a big part of my life. No day without reading! Last year I did something very unusual to me, and was listening some audiobooks too, while I drive from home to work.
In my job as speech- and language therapist for children I see it as my personal goal to get every child reading by their parents or by themselves if that’s possible 💜

message 1217: by Aiko (last edited Dec 29, 2020 07:10AM) (new)

Aiko (widhidana) | 4 comments Hi everyone!

My name is Aiko and I'm from Indonesia. I saw someone post a question on Facebook trying to find books for the "Global Voices" challenge and it sounded interesting so I googled and found this group!

I am absolutely terrible keeping up with challenges although I love the idea of them. Maybe being a part of this group would help me change that in 2021? Fingers crossed.

Looking forward to bookish adventures with all of you :)

message 1218: by Heather (new)

Heather | 1 comments Hi everyone! My name is Heather, and I live in North Carolina in the US. I am a librarian for a K-2 school. In spite of being a librarian, I do not read very much because I must love the way the person writes...not just the subject/genre of the book. For instance, over the years, I've read and loved A Gentleman in Moscow, The Shadow of the Wind, The Girl with the Pearl Earring, The Beekeeper's Apprentice, Ready Player One, The House in the Cerulean Sea, Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake), andThe 7 1/2 deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle . Eclectic, I know. There has to be something there to grab my attention and be unusual but at the same time be absolutely sublime in the way the person puts the words together to tell the story. So...you can see my problem. I "think" I'll like a book, and then wind up putting it down 50 pages in because I'm so disappointed by how the writer writes.

This year, I want to read 20 books that are over 100 pages long (unless it's a "classic"). I know, sounds like a weird challenge, but I've also challenged myself to read 365 picture books that I've never read...a book a day. :-)

I have a question though...do we have to pick out the books we're going to read and list them, or do we just add them as we read them?? Thanks!!!

message 1222: by Nahomi (new)

Nahomi | 15 comments Hello !
My name is Nahomi, I am from the U.S specifically California. I used to read non stop before but its been a couple years since I've sat down and opened a book. I never really had a preference for books but i do have more fiction or historical books. Right now I'm opened to anything though since my taste could have changed. One of my goals for 2021 is to pick up reading again, I miss it. I was looking for a group to join that could help me reach some type of goal and I came across this one so I decided to join. As for an actual goal I think that 10 books in 2021 is manageable, since its been so long that I've finished a book. I hope that I can go over that amount but ill focus on ATLEAST achieving 10 books in the year. if you have any recommendation please let me know !

message 1223: by Leona (new)

Leona Loftis (laloftis) | 27 comments Hi Everyone!

My name is Leona, I am from the US and live in Texas. I have had goodreads for awhile but just recently started actively using it. I was curious to see how many books I read in a year and excited to see that there were groups like this one.
I love Fantasy books both adult and YA , I also enjoy classic literature, Sci Fi, Mystery, as well as some Romance. I am currently reading The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare.
I average about 15 to 20 books a month so I'm still deciding what to set my 2021 goal for. I hate stopping my stories so I generally get the E book and audio version of books because I have an hour commute to work. My preferred way of reading is still a traditional book in my hand. If I love an E book I will by a copy for my collection to my husband's dismay.
I can't wait to get to discuss books with fellow readers and excited for the challenges in this group. I look forward to recommendations!!

Katherine (simplecake) Hi Everyone!

I'm Katherine and I currently live in England. My love of reading first occurred during the first lockdown so around April/May time. I've been enjoying a range of books, from comedy to psychological thrillers and romance to topics on mental health.

I am just looking to expand my knowledge to see if there are any other topics that I'd like to read.

Oh, I love Greek Mythology too so if anyone knows any good books on that (I'm looking to buy Pandora's Jar in the near future) then I'd love to know.

Happy New Year everyone!

I read all Agatha Christie's books when I was younger and decided to start reading them again. So much Porot and Marple this year!
In 2020 I discovered audiobooks. I think it is very nice to listen to something interesting when you are doing your boring domestic work!
I also read classics from every period.

message 1234: by Laura (last edited Dec 30, 2020 02:12PM) (new)

Laura (somethingxblue) Hello guys! My name is Laura, I'm from Argentina.

I don't usually find enough time to read, due to my full time job and being a part-time student, but during 2020 I managed to read +30 books, a huge number for me.

I realized I missed reading so much, and I thought joining a group here in goodreads would help me keep my motivation up to read at least as much during 2021.

This seemed like the perfect group to meet some new people, motivate each other and read together :)

I love reading all kinds of books, but I split my time mostly between non-fiction and sci-fi / fantasy.

Very excited to be here!

message 1235: by Felicia (new)

Felicia Bunch | 8 comments Hi, I’m Felicia, a RN and lifelong bookworm. I love reading all subjects and genres, and I tend to fall into rabbit holes with one certain type of book. I’ll read only that type of book exclusively and excessively until I can’t stand it and then give it a break! I did this with true crime, spooky historical fiction, nonfiction, etc. I’m excited to join a challenge and have something fun to focus on in 2021!
