Jo's initial reaction made sense to me. She had lived through similar storms throughout her life and knew how to prepare and react. Moreover, her reasoning that it would not make sense for escaped prisoners to travel such a long distance into unpredictable and potentially dangerous weather was plausible. In fact, the only reason they did was due to Aaron's obsession, which Jo could not have known in the beginning.
My experience with those who live in these regions is they also take pride in managing through them. It’s a responsibility they accept for living there, especially if they run an establishment. It’s almost like a point of pride.
Jo had lived with the storm situations before and knew they would eventually be fine. If there hadn't been convicts headed her way, they would have been great. I can understand why she didn't take the threat against her seriously. No one could have known the depth of Aaron's crazy or what he would do.
This was part of living where she did. Coping with storms. I think she assumed that no one could get through so she wasn't really concerned about the convicts. Especially when she received the fax and she didn't recognize either of them.
I agree, again. Many people in that situation know how to handle the snow and are used to it. I wouldn't have thought much about the escaped convicts either.
