Emiel | 16 comments There appear to be multiple authors in the system for Mikhail Gorbachev, each with a different spelling and each having some books attributed to them. A few examples:

https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

Some books even have the same author twice, with a different spelling, e.g. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Could these authors be combined? I can imagine that different editions of the same book have also been filed under different authors so maybe some additional cleanup is needed here. Let me know if I can be of any assistance!

Arenda | 26448 comments Author profiles in different language/spelling should not be combined. All books should have the same primary author, in this case Mikhail Gorbachev, which is the English spelling. Especially for Russian authors, there are multiple variants for the same author.

I've added Mikhail Gorbachev as primary author for both profiles you linked to, and moved the author as written on the cover from the primary author position. I've also included a link to the 'primary' author profile to the profiles for the alternate spelled names, see for example the Dutch spelling Michail Gorbatsjov.
I've done the same for several other variations of his name.

All books are now on the Mikhail Gorbachev profile. If you see editions of a book that needs to be combined, please link to them.

Policy for authors published in multiple languages:
Authors with books published in multiple languages should have their names dealt with similarly to those with pen names. All editions should have the primary author name as the standard or most common Roman (that is, English-language) version of the author's name. Editions published under another spelling of the name or the name in another language should have that name listed as the secondary author. Additional author profiles may be linked directly from the About Me section on the author profile.
